DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 148
DATE: 28TH MAY 2026
TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING YOUR AUTHORITY IN CHRIST
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: LUKE 10:19 (KJV)
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Devotional Message:
In Luke 10:19, Jesus reveals a profound spiritual truth concerning the believer’s position and victory in Him. Interestingly, two different Greek words translated as “power” are used in this scripture.
The first word is “exousia,” which means authority — delegated authority, privilege, or legal right. The second word is “dunamis,” which means power, strength, or ability. This means Jesus was essentially saying:“I give you authority over all the power and ability of the enemy.”This understanding is very important for every believer.
In ourselves, we do not possess the ability or strength to defeat Satan and the powers of darkness through human effort. However, through Christ Jesus, believers have been given authority over the enemy.
Our authority in Christ can be compared to a traffic police officer standing in the road directing vehicles.Physically, the officer does not possess the strength to stop moving vehicles with bare hands. Yet cars stop because the officer operates under delegated authority backed by the government.
Likewise, believers operate under the authority of Jesus Christ Himself. The power behind our authority is not human strength, intelligence, emotions, or personal ability — it is God Himself. This is why demons trembled when Jesus spoke, and why the apostles could cast out devils and heal the sick in the Name of Jesus. Heaven backed the authority they exercised.
The believer must therefore become conscious of:Their position in Christ, authority given through Jesus, victory secured at the cross and power behind the Name of Jesus.Fear disappears when believers understand who stands behind them.
Many believers live intimidated lives not because the devil is stronger, but because they are unaware of the authority already given to them in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians teaches that we are seated together with Christ in heavenly places — a place of authority, dominion, and victory. Therefore, believers are not called to beg Satan for freedom but to enforce the victory Christ already secured.
However, authority becomes effective when believers:Walk in obedience,Remain submitted to God,Stand upon the Word,Exercise faith and Speak with confidence in Christ.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the authority You have given me in Christ Jesus. Open the eyes of my understanding to know my position in You. Help me to walk boldly, fearlessly, and confidently in the victory Christ secured for me. Teach me to exercise spiritual authority with wisdom, faith, and obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
