A GOOD SURRENDER
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"I rejoice greatly in the LORD that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed you have been concerned but you had no opportunity to show it. I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances." Phillipians 4:10-11 NIV
Surrender is not a word liked by almost everyone, it is used in reference to humiliation that comes with defeat. When a nation loses out in a war, it would be forced to unconditionally surrender, and as such has no say on the terms of defeat. Yet there's another kind of surrender that is dignified and appropriate.
Reading the context of our anchor Scripture, you will realise Paul's point in relation to our subject in two ways:
1). Surrendering our needs, desires and will to God, our heavenly Father.
Here, our LORD Jesus is our example because He did the Father's will in everything.
2). Our acceptance of God's Supremacy and Sovereignty.
In the spiritual sense, to surrender means that we trust God to do what is the best just as Paul said '... I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.' (v-12), and truth be told, that kind of faith is not easy, but not impossible. But that is a Godly approach to overcome disaffection and anger associated with uncontrollable circumstances.
This is the right time to say' I surrender' to our LORD Jesus and to His perfect will and plan for your life.
PRAYER BULLETS:
LORD Jesus, help me to fully surrender to the Supremacy and Sovereignty of the Father. I ask for Your grace to learn the secret of contentment in every given circumstance.
FURTHER READING:
Psalm 86:11; John 1:14; John 17:17; 18:37-38; Philippians 4:10-13.
