Good evening, brethren. I hope all is well with you, family and work, or ministry!

I was unable to post the daily devotional from Friday evening to Saturday morning. I lost my phone on Friday afternoon and was able to recover it today in the afternoon. Sorry for the inconvenience. To God be the glory for recovering it.

1. Evening devotion for today.

ED .i. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST*
(COCIN DEVOTIONAL)

*DATE:*
FRIDAY 29TH MAY, 2026.

*SUB-THEME:*
RESPONSE TO GRACE.

*TOPIC:*
SHUN COMPARISON.

*TEXTS:*
2 CORINTHIANS 10:12; PHILIPPIANS 2:3.

*2 CORINTHIANS 10:12.*
12 We would not dare put ourselves in the same class with, or compare ourselves to, those who recommend themselves. Whenever they measure themselves by their own standards or compare themselves among themselves, they show how foolish they are. 2Co 3:1 2Co 5:12

*PHILIPPIANS 2:3.*
3 Do not act out of selfish ambition or conceit, but with humility think of others as being better than yourselves. Rom 12:10 1Pe 5:5

*TOPIC:*
SHUN COMPARISON.

*THE MESSAGE:*
Comparison in the household of God affects our cordiality and impact. Paul warns believers never to compare themselves with others. Assessment of spiritual life must only be on Christ. Any attempt at comparison will breed pride and hamper growth. It is common to see believers comparing themselves with others based on gifts, services, accomplishments, contributions, and so on. Such people often fall short when they apply God's standard. The feeling that "I am better" has created selfish ambitions and arrogance that have ruined fellowships. Is this your attitude? Be warned! Use your gift with solemn reflection - to edify others and please God.

*REFLECTION:*
Use your gift to glorify God.

*PRAYER:*
Father, help me to shun comparison, in Jesus' name. Amen.

*MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:*
TITUS 2:12.
It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age.

*TODAY'S BIBLE READING PLAN:*
JOB 35-37.

Heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
Luke 21:34

Snares and Traps

Snares of this world encircle us on every side – but snares are traps. Snares are baited. They should not have to come upon us by surprise. Snares entrap the careless one that is not vigilant in watching. Snares are spring-traps that lie in wait to catch its victim. Be careful – we are warned that the Lord’s coming is not like a spring-trap. Be careful – lest His return catches you in the same way as a set trap, for we can be caught unawares if we do not guard our hearts.

Deep Entrapments

And these warnings are burning embarrassments for the one who seeks holiness. The things that can easily entrap us are listed as the excesses of careless living.. lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting /dissipation /excess.. lest at any time your heart be overwhelmed with drunkenness – lest at any time your heart be overwhelmed with the cares of this life. We would do well to keep in mind this warning of the world’s is deep entrapments.

Spiritual Warnings

The first snare is to do with surfeiting / dissipation / excess / self-indulgence. Surfeiting means to dissipate/ to throw away / to squander / to disintegrate… but this warning against the physical excess can translate into a spiritual warning.

Guard You Heart

Each believer has a life – a saved life which can be used or squandered away. Each servant has talents – which can be used to His glory or wasted unwisely. Each Christian who does not die to self – wastes rather than increases their talents. Such a one prevents or quenches the work of the Holy Spirit in their life. Such a one pours contempt on the grace of God if they neglect to guard their hearts.

Unceasing Readiness

The next snare is drunkenness / intemperance which is so often a form of escapism, but the warning against the physical act can translate into a spiritual warning. It is often linked in the physical with a refusal to face the realities of life. It can be confirmed in the spiritual with a similar blindness to the realities to come. And ignoring the warning to ready for His return at all times is the spiritual equivalent. For we are cautioned to be ready at all times in an attitude of unceasing prayer.

Put on the New

Each believer has a life that needs honing – yet spiritual realities are not always faced. Each servant has talents to use – yet opportunities to live for Christ can be wasted. Such a one who does not put on the new man and put off the old – grieves the Spirit. Such a one that doesn’t face the spiritual realities of life – ceases to guard their heart.

Trust in God

The final snare is to permit the trials of this life to overwhelm us with worry, lest at any time your hearts be overwhelmed with the cares of this life. And the caution against the physical sin translates into a spiritual warning. We must not allow the worries of life to encumber us with a need to ‘do it ourself”, Pre-occupation with the problems of a life excludes a need for faith in God.

Heed to Yourself

Oh, we all have many family and business, financial and relational problems, but it is giving these problems preeminence in your thoughts – in your heart.. lest at any time your hearts be overwhelmed with the cares of this life. It causes us to remove ourselves from the need to guard our hearts, and the unguarded heart must beware – for it will be overtaken by surprise.. heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”

Lay Up Treasure

How many believers in all honesty are watching for the coming of the Lord? Yet in their calculations and opinions they ignore the warning of the Spirit ? How many are watching for an event, and yet fail to guard their hearts? How many are neglecting the needs of the soul, to satisfy the lust of the flesh? How many are truly guarding their hearts, by laying up treasure in heaven?

Watch and be Sober

How many realise that without watching rightly the day will catch them out? But Scripture always confirms itself by the mouth of two or three witnesses and Paul tells us: let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.” But you, are not in darkness, so that this day should overtake you as a thief For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night” 1Thess.5:6.

Prepared Hearts

Many people are schooled in the second coming of the Lord. Many have sung praises to the long-awaited Christ – our long expected Jesus. Many earnestly have prayed “Maranatha” for the arrival of that time… but that in no way prepares a saint spiritually for Christ’s return – that does not guard the heart of a saint sufficiently. And sadly, many have not prepared their hearts.

Watch and Pray

Many have become overcharged with ‘dissipation’, and ‘drunkenness’, Many have become ensnared with the ‘cares of this life. Let us moment by moment prepare our hearts. Let us day by day heed the Lord’s warning :- And Let us “Watch” in every season and “Pray”.

2. Evening Prayer for today.

EP.i. Evening Prayer

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. ⏤ Psalm 4:8

Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work. ⏤ Oswald Chambers

What can we say to You, O God, tonight, to express our gratitude for all the goodness of this day? We can only bring You our hearts' humble worship and ask You to accept it. We lay the work of this week upon the altar. Cleanse what is wrong in it. Accept and use what is right.

Our thanks are due to You for all You have been to us this week. You have been our Shepherd, leading us into green pastures and beside still waters. You have been our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. You have been our fortress, into which we have run in times of danger, finding deliverance. You have been our companion along the way, our guide, our guardian, our friend, our deliverer, our helper.

Impress Yourself on our lives. Saturate our very being with Your own life, so that we may be transformed into Your own character!

We pray tonight for the world outside. Much of it is without You and without hope. Remember the homes around us that are godless and prayerless. Find a way, O God, to enter these homes so that the children, at least, may be saved. We also pray for those who have sorrow in their homes and cry out for comfort. Wipe away their tears by revealing the truths that bring true consolation.

We commit our own home to Your protection for the night. You who never slumber—be our keeper. Let no danger come near us. May Your peace rest upon our home. Prepare us for the duties of Sunday. May it please You to spare us and bless us in every good way. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
