"The fruit of the Spirit" and "The fruit of Righteousness"

This is a very thoughtful question. Many Christians read about "the fruit of the Spirit" and "the fruit of righteousness" without noticing the difference between them.

1. The Fruit of the Spirit
The key text is:
> "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance..." — Galatians 5:22-23
Notice Paul says "fruit" (singular), not "fruits" (plural).

What is righteousness?
Righteousness means being in a right relationship with God and doing right and living according to His will.

When a believer walks in righteousness, certain results appear in life.
The fruits of righteousness include:

-- Purity
-- Godly speech
-- Compassion
These are the outward evidences of a righteous life.

Jesus taught:
> "By their fruits ye shall know them." — Matthew 7:16
The fruit of righteousness is therefore the visible evidence that a person is walking with God.

When we abide in Christ, the Spirit produces love within us, and that love expresses itself through joy, peace, patience, and all the other graces, resulting in a life filled with the fruits of righteousness.
