Daily Devotion: John 8:12
Jesus spoke to the Pharisees again. "I am the light of the world," he said. "Whoever follows me will have the light of life and will never walk in darkness.
How wonderful is THIS? If we follow Jesus, we carry His light in us. This is such a comforting thought, especially in times when many people perceive their lives as dark and filled with trials and troubles.
Many of us suffer from depression, melancholy or any other mental issue that can drag us down. It leaves us feeling drained, totally incompetent and worthless. We are constantly bombarded by negative news, negative thoughts and negative images. Yes, life has become a pit of despair for many. If you are suffering and you feel consumed by dark thoughts and ideas, remember this, these do NOT come from God. Negative thoughts, worries about events that may or may not happen, remembering past failures and brooding over it, these are spiritual attacks. The devil wants to bring us down, even while God wishes only to lift us up.
1 John 1:5: "Now the message we have heard from his Son and announce is this: God is light, and there is no darkness at all in him."
God does not bring you down by sending dark thoughts and ideas, no, He sent us the light, His Son, Jesus Christ, so that we can be set free from the darkness. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour you need not accept this darkness as a way of life. You have the power, given by the Holy Spirit who lives in you, to silence all negative voices in your head and to ward off all negative influences in the Name of Christ.
Ephesians 5:8: "You yourselves used to be in the darkness, but since you have become the Lord's people, you are in the light. So you must live like people who belong to the light,"
Isaiah 58:8: "Then my favour will shine on you like the morning sun, and your wounds will be quickly healed. I will always be with you to save you; my presence will protect you on every side."
