"THE IMPORTANCE OF PRAISING GOD (2)"

‘…His praise will always be on my lips.’  Psalms 34:1 NIV

THE BOOK of Job speaks about the rain cycle: ‘…He maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof: Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly. Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?’ (Job 36:27-29 KJV). There’s a spiritual parallel in this Scripture that works like this: as our vapours of praise go up to God, the clouds of His presence form and the rains of His blessing begin to fall on us. Sometimes we leave church saying, ‘That was a dry service.’ The problem isn’t dry services; it’s dry servants! In praise you are the initiator and God is the responder. ‘…They were joined by 120 priests who were playing trumpets. The trumpeters and singers performed together in unison to praise…the Lord…they raised their voices…At that moment a thick cloud filled the Temple of the Lord. The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple of God’ (2 Chronicles 5:12-14 NLT). Wouldn’t you love to have been in church for that service! There’s a story about a wealthy man who dropped a pound into the offering plate at church, then complained all the way home that he didn’t get anything out of the service. His son, who observed the whole thing, said, ‘I suppose that just proves if you don’t put much into it, you don’t get much out of it.’ Here’s a key to blessing you need to think about: worship isn’t just for God’s benefit, it’s also for yours!

MD.ii. WHY BAPTIZE?

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." - Matthew 28:19

You read in the book of Acts that the disciples baptized the people. They repented from sin, were baptized in water and were filled with the Holy Spirit. In Acts we read that Peter was in the house of Cornelius and while he was preaching to the gentiles 'the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message' (Acts 10:44). Then Peter said: 'Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have. So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.' (Acts 10:47-48).

We clearly see here that Peter was obedient to the command of Jesus that they should baptize the new believers (so not only sprinkling or pouring water; baptism means to fully immerse into water).

Immediately after the Holy Spirit was poured out on Pentecostal Day and Peter preached under the anointing of the Spirit, they asked the apostles, 'Brothers, what should we do?'Peter then replied: 1) you must turn back to God, and 2) be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and 3) you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).

The baptism Peter talked about is the baptism of immersion in water and it is for everyone who is born again and believes in the Lord Jesus Christ. A baby cannot choose yet. The Bible says that children are sanctified by the believing parents. Babies are dedicated and presented to God in churches practicing the adult baptism. Mark 16:16 says: 'Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.'Before Jesus began His ministry on earth, He also was baptized (immersed) by John the Baptist. Let us follow Jesus' example!

2. Morning Prayer for today.

MP.i. Morning Prayer

[It is of] the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. [They are] new every morning: great [is] thy faithfulness. ⏤ Lamentations 3:22-23

Prayer is the slender nerve that moves the muscle of omnipotence. ⏤ Charles Spurgeon

O God, who grants mercy and truth to Your people from generation to generation, we come with confidence to You. You have never turned away any who came to You. Not one of Your words has ever failed to be fulfilled. Your promises have always been kept with those who have accepted them and leaned upon them. Your name has been a strong tower to everyone who has run to it for safety. You are . . .
An everlasting rock,
An eternal refuge,
A very present help in times of trouble for all who have turned to You.

We come as Your children to You at the beginning of a new day. Your mercies are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. We ask You to show us Your face before we go out into the day. If we have Your blessing, we will not fear any experiences we may have to meet. In the light of Your countenance may we walk all the hours of this day—and then we shall be safe. Put holy thoughts and heavenly aspirations into our hearts. We desire to live the heavenly life in this world, and we can only do so if You put Your thoughts into our minds.

We are going out into a world full of evil, with unholy influences on every side. We have no power of our own to move through this evil world and keep ourselves unspotted. We come to You for grace to help us. May You keep us from evil. Keep our hearts so that only holy feelings and desires may spring up in them. Preserve us from the power of evil in others around us. Let us . . .
Not listen to wicked suggestions,
Nor be swayed by wrong examples,
Nor yield to unholy motives.
Let not passion or appetite rule us.

We commit ourselves to Your safe keeping, in Jesus Christ. Amen.
