Woe to Those at Ease in Zion
Amos 6:1-6
Woe to those who are at ease,
And to those who feel secure;
Notable men sending pleas,
And those who would remain pure.
Pass over and see Zion,
In going up the mountain;
Hearing the roaring lion,
Next to the flowing fountain.
Are you better than this place?
Their border better than yours;
Then you must go and embrace,
Unto the Lord that endures.
Put away the evil day,
That cause the seat of unrest;
Violence that makes you stray,
Because peace will be your quest.
Woe to them who lie on beds,
And stretched out on their couches;
Lamb and calves in the midst fed,
As the lions lie in their cages.
They sing idle songs that sound,
The harp that David invents;
Music instruments renowned,
Playing that each one repents.
Communion with bowls of wine,
Fine oil themselves anoint;
Exalting of the Divine,
That the Lord chose to appoint.
