Daily Devotion — June 11 | Acts 1:8 (NKJV)

Strength to Be His Witness

Acts 1:8 contains some of Jesus' final words to His disciples before He ascended into heaven. The disciples were wondering about future events and the restoration of Israel, but Jesus redirected their attention to the mission He was giving them. Rather than focusing on timelines and circumstances, they were to focus on the work God had called them to do.

Jesus promised that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them. This promise was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit empowered the believers to boldly proclaim the gospel. The disciples who had once struggled with fear and uncertainty became courageous witnesses because God's Spirit was working within them.

The Lord never intended His followers to fulfill His mission through human strength alone. The task of sharing Christ with the world is far greater than our natural abilities. That is why God provides the power of the Holy Spirit. He gives wisdom, courage, guidance, and strength to live for Christ and testify about Him in everyday life.

This verse also reveals God's heart for all people. The gospel was not meant to remain in Jerusalem. It was to spread to Judea, Samaria, and ultimately to the ends of the earth. The message of salvation through Jesus Christ is for every nation, culture, and generation. Today, believers continue to participate in this mission by living faithfully, sharing their faith, supporting ministry, and reflecting Christ wherever God has placed them.

When we feel inadequate or afraid, Acts 1:8 reminds us that God's power is available to His people. The Holy Spirit equips us to be effective witnesses and enables us to point others to the hope found in Jesus Christ.

Reflection Questions

1. Am I relying on my own strength or on the power of the Holy Spirit?

2. How can I be a witness for Christ in my daily interactions?

3. What opportunities has God given me to share His love with others?

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for giving Your Holy Spirit to empower and guide Your people. Help me to rely on Your strength rather than my own abilities. Give me courage to be a faithful witness for Jesus wherever You have placed me. Use my life to bring glory to You and to point others to Christ. In Jesus name Amen.

Practical Application

● Begin each day by asking the Holy Spirit for guidance and strength.

● Look for one opportunity this week to share your faith or encourage someone spiritually.

● Pray regularly for people who do not yet know Christ and for the spread of the gospel around the world.

Takeaway Thought

God does not merely call us to be His witnesses—He empowers us through His Spirit to fulfill that calling.
