OPEN HEAVEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SATURDAY JUNE 13TH 2026 THEME: POVERTY vs GODLINESS MEMORISE: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 John 2 READ: 2 Kings 4:1-7 1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen. 2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil. 3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. 4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. 5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. 6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. 7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest. MESSAGE In the 70s, when I became born again, it was widely believed among Christians that poverty is one of the criteria for being a true child of God. This belief was so strong that when someone gifted me a Mercedes- Benz, I parked it in my garage unused for months until the Lord told me I was hindering the blessings of the person who gave me the car by not using it. I was afraid that people would think I had backslidden if they saw me in such an expensive car. Because of what the Lord had said to me, I decided to drive the car just once, and I recall that I felt so ashamed that day. After that day, I said, "Lord, I have driven the car, can I sell it now?" He agreed, and I sold it. Not long after that, someone gave me a limousine with six doors. When I saw it, I said, "Lord, you know that even if they put my dead body in this car, it will jump out of it." That is how much we thought that poverty was directly proportional to godliness in those days, and because of that, the devil cheated us. He raised people to take over companies and industries until Christians were at the mercy of evil people running different economies around the world. There is nothing godly about poverty; it has sent many people to hell, just as riches have done. Poverty has made many youths decide never to follow the path of their Christian parents because of how badly they suffered while growing up. It has made the people of the world mock the Almighty God because they thought that Christians were dumb as a result of their devotion to God. In today's Bible reading, one of Elisha's proteges died in poverty and left an inheritance of debt for his family. If his wife had not run to Elisha and received the word of the Lord that turned their poverty to wealth, his two sons, who were facing a lifetime of slavery, could have grown up hating God even though their father was a godly man. God is not poor (Haggai 2:8), so poverty is not godliness. God gives his children power to make wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18), and it is His desire to prosper them even as their soul prospers (3 John 1:2). Beloved, reject poverty! Grant to us now a refreshing; Come, and now honor Thy Word. 4 There shall be showers of blessing; O that today they might fall, Now as to God we’re confessing, Now as on Jesus we call! 5 There shall be showers of blessing, If we but trust and obey; There shall be seasons refreshing, If we let God have His way. ‎PRAYER POINTS ON TODAY'S OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL SATURDAY, 13TH JUNE, 2026 *POVERTY vs GODLINESS* ‎ ‎✓Father, thank You for Your wish for me to prosper and be in good health; Though You we're rich, yet for my sake You became poor so that by Your poverty, I can be rich ‎✓Father, thank You for paying the debt of my sins through Your death at Calvary so I might possess abundant spiritual wealth, grace, and divine power to fulfill Your purpose for my life. ‎ ‎✓Father, thank You for giving me power to make wealth, and for Your promise that You will bless me without adding any sorrow ‎ ‎✓Father, please deliver me from poverty mentality. Help me to walk in the riches and blessings You have made available for me, in Jesus' name ‎ ‎✓Father, please help open my eyes to access and use the abundance of Your blessings You have surrounded me with to Your Glory, so I won't hinder others from being blessed of You, in Jesus' name ✓Father, please help me not to be enslaved by the lies of satan as touching prosperity and godliness. I refuse to live in ignorance but in the truth of Your word for me, in Jesus' name ✓Father, please when You bless me, help me to live godly and never to allow the riches of this world to defile my faith in You, in Jesus' name. ✓Father, please bless all the Christians so we won't live at the mercy of the unbelievers in all aspects of life. Bless us so we won't die in poverty leaving debts for our families, in Jesus' name ✓Father, I receive Your word today, turn my poverty to wealth and help me to remain godly, so my children will not grow up hating You but living to serve You in joy for the rest of their lives, in Jesus' name ✓Father, because You are not a poor God, I therefore reject poverty on all sides, in Jesus' name ✓Father, thank You for the life of Your son, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye. ‎ Please help him to continue to live and walk in the riches of glory, bless with wealth for the expansion of Your kingdom here on earth, in Jesus' name.
