TODAY'S MESSAGE
SERMON TITLE:
NIGERIA INSECURITY – GOD FIX IT FOR US
A Cry For God's Intervention.
Beloved, we live in a time when many people wake up with fear and go to bed with uncertainty. News of kidnappings, banditry, terrorism, armed robbery, killings, and violence have become common headlines. Families are grieving. Communities are living in fear. Many people are asking:
"God, where are You?" "How long will this continue?" "Can Nigeria ever be safe again?"
Today, we gather not merely to complain about the problems but to seek the God who specializes in impossible situations.
When human strength fails, God's power prevails.
The God who parted the Red Sea, delivered Israel from slavery, and protected Daniel in the lions' den is still alive today.
Nigeria's insecurity is not beyond God's ability to fix.
KEY TEXTS
1. Psalm 46:1
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
God does not abandon His people during crises. He is a present help—not a distant observer.
2. 2 Chronicles 7:14
"If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face... then will I hear from heaven and will heal their land."
Notice that God did not say He would only heal individuals. He promised to heal a nation.
3. Isaiah 60:18
"Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders."
This is God's desire for every nation—a land of peace and security.
4. Psalm 121:7-8
"The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil..."
Our ultimate security is in God.
POINT 1:
INSECURITY REVEALS OUR NEED FOR GOD
Many nations become comfortable when things are working well. But difficult seasons often remind us that human wisdom alone cannot solve every problem.
Throughout Scripture, whenever Israel faced danger, they turned back to God.
Sometimes God allows challenges to awaken a sleeping nation.
We need military efforts. We need intelligence gathering. We need good governance.
But above all, we need God's intervention.
Proverbs 21:31
"The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord."
Human effort is necessary, but divine protection is indispensable.
POINT 2:
GOD CAN BRING PEACE WHERE CHAOS REIGNS
When Jesus entered a storm-tossed boat, He simply spoke:
"Peace, be still." (Mark 4:39)
Immediately the storm obeyed.
The same Christ who calmed the sea can calm troubled regions, villages, cities, and nations.
The insecurity around us may look overwhelming, but it is not greater than the authority of Jesus Christ.
Where men see impossibility, God sees opportunity.
POINT 3:
NATIONAL HEALING BEGINS WITH PERSONAL REPENTANCE
It is easy to point fingers at leaders, government officials, criminals, and institutions.
But God says:
"If MY people..."
Revival starts with believers.
We cannot ask God to heal the nation while embracing corruption, dishonesty, hatred, injustice, and compromise.
A transformed nation begins with transformed hearts.
If families change, Churches change.
If churches change, Communities change.
If communities change, The nation changes.
POINT 4:
THE CHURCH MUST BECOME A LIGHT IN DARK TIMES
The Church is not called to hide during difficult seasons.
Jesus said:
Matthew 5:14
"You are the light of the world."
When darkness increases, light becomes more important.
The Church must:
Pray fervently.
Preach hope.
Promote peace.
Help victims.
Encourage righteousness.
Raise godly leaders.
This is not the time for silence.
It is the time for spiritual responsibility.
POINT 5:
OUR HOPE IS IN GOD'S PROMISES
The future of Nigeria is not determined solely by the headlines.
God still has the final say.
Throughout history, God has restored broken nations.
He restored Jerusalem after destruction.
He restored Israel after captivity.
He can restore Nigeria.
No situation is beyond His power.
What looks impossible today can become a testimony tomorrow.
BIBLICAL CASE STUDY:
King Jehoshaphat and National Crisis
2 Chronicles 20
A vast army came against Judah.
The people were terrified.
King Jehoshaphat did not depend solely on military strength.
He called the nation to prayer and fasting.
Together they sought God's face.
God responded:
"The battle is not yours, but God's."
The enemy was defeated, and Judah experienced victory without losing the battle.
This story teaches us that when a nation sincerely seeks God, divine intervention becomes possible.
DEEP SPIRITUAL INSIGHTS
1. Fear is contagious, but faith is more powerful.
One believer full of faith can inspire an entire community.
2. Prayer is not a last resort; it is a strategic weapon.
Heaven responds when God's people pray.
3. National transformation begins in the spiritual realm.
Many visible problems have invisible roots.
4. God specializes in restoring what appears broken beyond repair.
No nation is too damaged for God.
PRACTICAL ACTION STEPS
1. Pray daily for Nigeria.
Do not only criticize; intercede.
2. Live righteously.
Refuse corruption and dishonesty.
3. Support peace and unity.
Avoid spreading hatred and division.
4. Encourage security personnel.
Pray for their protection and wisdom.
5. Be a voice of hope.
Speak faith rather than despair.
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
1. Am I praying regularly for my nation?
2. Am I contributing to peace or conflict?
3. Is my personal life reflecting the righteousness I desire for Nigeria?
4. Do I trust God's power more than the negative news around me?
5. What role can I play in bringing hope to my community?
POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS
1.
Father, have mercy upon Nigeria and heal our land in Jesus' name.
2.
Every spirit of violence, bloodshed, kidnapping, and terrorism operating in our nation, be destroyed by the power of God.
3.
Lord, protect our families, communities, schools, churches, and businesses.
4.
Grant wisdom, integrity, and courage to all leaders and security agencies.
5.
Let every plan of wicked men against innocent citizens fail.
6.
Raise righteous leaders who fear God and love justice.
7.
Let peace return to every troubled region of Nigeria.
8.
Father, turn our mourning into joy and our fear into confidence.
9.
Let revival sweep across Nigeria from the north to the south, from the east to the west.
10.
May Nigeria become a testimony of God's mercy, restoration, and peace.
CALL TO ACTION
Child of God, do not surrender to fear.
Do not allow the darkness around you to extinguish the light within you.
Nigeria needs more than complaints—it needs praying men and women, righteous believers, courageous leaders, and citizens who trust God.
The same God who has preserved this nation through many storms is still on the throne.
Stand in faith.
Pray without ceasing.
Live righteously.
Speak hope.
Believe God for restoration.
Nigeria shall rise again. Peace shall prevail. God will heal our land.
Amen. 🏽
