TITLE: “Returning to Your First Love.”
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S)
Hosea 14:4 (KJV) “I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.”
Revelation 2:4–5 (KJV) “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”
QUOTE TO REFLECT ON
“God's greatest desire is not merely our service, but our wholehearted love and devotion to Him.”
DAY'S REFLECTION
One of the subtle dangers in the Christian life is becoming busy for God while gradually drifting away from intimacy with God. It is possible to attend church, serve faithfully, pray occasionally, and yet lose the passion and love that once characterised our walk with Him.
The church in Ephesus was commended for many good works, yet Jesus pointed out one serious issue—they had left their first love. Their activities remained, but their affection had diminished.
Similarly, God spoke through Hosea, promising to heal the backsliding of His people and love them freely. This reveals the heart of God. He is not eager to condemn the wandering believer; He is eager to restore and heal.
Consider a married couple who have been together for many years. The relationship remains intact, but daily responsibilities may gradually replace meaningful fellowship. The solution is not ending the relationship but intentionally returning to the practices that once nurtured love and closeness.
The same principle applies spiritually. If prayer has become a routine, worship has become mechanical, or Scripture reading has become neglected, God lovingly calls us back. He invites us to remember, repent, and return.
The good news is that God specialises in restoration. No matter how far one has drifted, His grace remains available. The God who calls us back also heals, restores, and renews our love for Him.
Today, examine your heart. Are you merely working for God, or are you walking closely with Him?
MEDITATION SCRIPTURE(S) WITH FULL VERSES
Jeremiah 29:13 (KJV) “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
