Daily Devotion — June 19 | Acts 2:36 (NKJV)

Recognizing the True King

Acts 2:36 comes at the climax of Peter's powerful sermon on the Day of Pentecost. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter boldly proclaimed the truth about Jesus to the crowd gathered in Jerusalem. He explained that the One who had been rejected, crucified, and put to death was in fact the Messiah promised by God and the risen Lord over all.

Peter's words carried deep conviction. Many in the crowd had either participated in or supported the rejection of Jesus. Yet Peter did not leave them with condemnation alone. He pointed them to the truth that Jesus was both "Lord and Christ." He is the Christ, the promised Savior sent by God to redeem His people. He is also Lord, possessing all authority and deserving complete obedience and worship.

This declaration remains at the heart of the Christian faith today. Jesus is more than a great teacher, prophet, or historical figure. He is the risen Lord who reigns forever. Every person must come to a decision regarding who Jesus is and how they will respond to Him. Acknowledging Him as Lord means surrendering our lives to His authority and trusting Him as our Savior.

For believers, this verse is a reminder that our faith rests upon the identity of Jesus Christ. Because He is Lord, we can trust His leadership in every area of life. Because He is the Christ, we can rest in the assurance of His salvation. Our greatest joy is found not in living for ourselves but in following the One whom God has exalted above all.

When we truly understand who Jesus is, our worship deepens, our obedience grows, and our confidence in Him becomes stronger. The Lordship of Christ is not a burden but a blessing, for the One who rules over us is also the One who loves us and gave Himself for us.

Reflection Questions

1. What does it mean for me personally to recognize Jesus as both Lord and Christ?

2. Are there areas of my life that I have not fully surrendered to His authority?

3. How can I demonstrate my devotion to Christ through my actions this week?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Help me to trust Him completely and to submit every area of my life to His authority. Deepen my love for Him and strengthen my desire to follow Him faithfully each day. May my life bring honor and glory to His name. In Jesus name Amen.

Practical Application

● Spend time worshiping Jesus for who He is, not only for what He has done.

● Identify one area of your life where you need to more fully submit to Christ's leadership.

● Share with someone this week why Jesus is your Savior and Lord.

Takeaway Thought

True peace and purpose are found when we recognize Jesus Christ as both our Savior and our Lord.
