These leaders expected to intimidate the apostles, yet they were astonished by what they witnessed. Peter and John spoke with remarkable confidence, wisdom, and courage despite being regarded as ordinary men without formal religious training. The religious leaders could not deny the evidence before them. Something had changed these men. The same disciples who had once struggled with fear were now boldly proclaiming the truth of Jesus Christ. Their transformation was so evident that the leaders reached a simple conclusion: they had been with Jesus. This verse reminds us that God often works through ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary purposes. The effectiveness of Peter and John did not come from academic credentials, social status, or personal influence. It came from their relationship with Christ and the empowering work of the Holy Spirit. Believers today can sometimes feel inadequate when comparing themselves to others. We may think we lack the knowledge, experience, or abilities needed to serve God effectively. Yet Acts 4:13 teaches that what matters most is not who we are apart from Christ, but who we become through Him. Time spent with Jesus changes our character, strengthens our faith, and equips us for the work He calls us to do. The world should be able to see evidence of Christ in our lives. Our words, attitudes, actions, and responses to challenges should reflect His presence within us.
