WORD OF LIFE
Put First Things First
Every day, countless things compete for our attention.
Work.
Responsibilities.
Notifications.
Deadlines.
Worries.
Without realizing it, we can spend an entire day busy with everything except what matters most.
But Jesus gives us a different priority:
"Strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." β Matthew 6:33
The world tells us to put success first.
Jesus tells us to put God first.
When God is at the center, everything else begins to find its proper place.
Today, the Church celebrates the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist.
John lived with one purpose: to lead others to Christ.
He never sought glory for himself. Instead, he said:
"He must increase, but I must decrease." β John 3:30
Saint John reminds us that putting God first does not diminish usβit transforms us.
Perhaps the greatest challenge of our time is distraction.
We are constantly connected, yet often spiritually disconnected.
Jesus gently calls us back to what matters most.
Take a moment today and ask yourself:
What truly comes first in my life?
Not what I say is first.
But what my time, energy, and choices reveal.
If God has slowly moved to the margins, invite Him back to the center.
He belongs there.
Prayer
Lord, teach us to seek Your Kingdom above everything else. Reorder our priorities and help us place You first each day. Amen.
Live the Word
Before checking your phone tomorrow morning, spend five minutes in prayer.
Reflection
What has quietly taken first place in your life, and how is God inviting you to return Him to the center today?
