  • WORD OF LIFE

    Put First Things First

Every day, countless things compete for our attention.

    Work.
    Responsibilities.
    Notifications.
    Deadlines.
    Worries.

Without realizing it, we can spend an entire day busy with everything except what matters most.

But Jesus gives us a different priority:

"Strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." β€” Matthew 6:33

The world tells us to put success first.
Jesus tells us to put God first.

When God is at the center, everything else begins to find its proper place.

Today, the Church celebrates the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist.

John lived with one purpose: to lead others to Christ.

He never sought glory for himself. Instead, he said:

"He must increase, but I must decrease." β€” John 3:30

Saint John reminds us that putting God first does not diminish usβ€”it transforms us.

Perhaps the greatest challenge of our time is distraction.

We are constantly connected, yet often spiritually disconnected.

Jesus gently calls us back to what matters most.

Take a moment today and ask yourself:

What truly comes first in my life?

Not what I say is first.
But what my time, energy, and choices reveal.

If God has slowly moved to the margins, invite Him back to the center.

    He belongs there.

    Prayer

Lord, teach us to seek Your Kingdom above everything else. Reorder our priorities and help us place You first each day. Amen.

    Live the Word

Before checking your phone tomorrow morning, spend five minutes in prayer.

    Reflection

What has quietly taken first place in your life, and how is God inviting you to return Him to the center today?

  • Not for Comfort Alone: Kingdom Intentions Behind God’s Provision

Many believers interpret God’s provision as a reward meant primarily for personal comfort—ease, pleasure, and security.

While God indeed delights in blessing His children, Scripture makes it clear that His provision always carries Kingdom purpose.

God does not bless us merely to enjoy life, but to advance His agenda on the earth. Provision without purpose leads to pride; provision with purpose leads to impact.

“But remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant…” — Deuteronomy 8:18

    1. GOD’S PROVISION IS COVENANT-DRIVEN, NOT COMFORT-DRIVEN

God blesses His people to fulfill His covenant, not to promote self-indulgence.

Israel was blessed so God’s covenant could be established.

Abraham was blessed so all nations could be blessed through him.

    Genesis 12:2–3

    Deuteronomy 8:18

    Psalm 105:8–11

Truth: If provision does not advance God’s covenant, it has missed its assignment.

    2. PROVISION IS A TOOL FOR KINGDOM EXPANSION

God supplies resources to fund His work on earth—evangelism, discipleship, justice, and compassion.

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things… you will abound in every good work.” — 2 Corinthians 9:8

    Provision is meant to:

Support the preaching of the Gospel

    Build God’s house

Care for the poor and vulnerable

    Scripture References:

    Matthew 28:19–20

    Luke 8:1–3

    Proverbs 19:17

    3. COMFORT WITHOUT KINGDOM PURPOSE PRODUCES SPIRITUAL STAGNATION

When God’s blessings are consumed only for self, spiritual decay sets in.

    Example:

The rich fool focused on comfort, not God’s purpose—and lost everything (Luke 12:15–21).

    Warning:

“You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” — James 4:3

Comfort-centered living dulls spiritual sensitivity and delays divine assignments.

    4. STEWARDSHIP DETERMINES SUSTAINABILITY OF PROVISION

God sustains provision where stewardship is evident.

“Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” — 1 Corinthians 4:2

    Faithful stewardship includes:

    Obedience in giving

    Accountability in spending

    Intentional investment in Kingdom causes

    Luke 16:10–11

    Matthew 25:14–30

    5. PROVISION IS A TEST OF ALIGNMENT

    God tests hearts through increase.

“If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.” — Psalm 62:10

    Your response to provision reveals:

    Who owns your heart

    Who controls your priorities

    Who directs your future

    Scripture References:

    Proverbs 3:9–10

    Matthew 6:19–21

    CONCLUSION

God’s provision is never accidental—it is intentional, strategic, and Kingdom-focused.

Comfort is a byproduct, not the purpose. When believers align their resources with God’s agenda, provision becomes a weapon for Kingdom advancement and a testimony of God’s glory.

Don’t ask, “What can this blessing do for me?”
Ask, “What does God want to do through this blessing?”

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33

    PRAYER
Lord, realign my heart to Your Kingdom purposes. Let every provision in my life serve Your will, advance Your gospel, and glorify Your name. Deliver me from selfish comfort and make me a faithful steward of Your resources, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  • Where Is Your Treasure?

Every man on earth treasures something.

Your treasure is what your heart values most, what you pursue, protect, and prioritize.

The question Jesus asked in Matthew 6:21 is as relevant today as it was over two thousand years ago — “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Many people treasure material things — money, fame, possessions, or human approval — while neglecting eternal values. God wants our treasure and heart to be centered in heaven, not on earthly things that fade away.

    Matthew 6:19–21
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

    UNDERSTANDING WHAT TREASURE MEANS

Your treasure is anything that holds your greatest affection, attention, and ambition. It could be:

    * Your wealth (Mark 10:21–22)

    * Your career or reputation (Philippians 3:7–8)

    * Your relationships (Luke 14:26)

    * Or your service to God (Matthew 19:29)

The real test is — if God asks you to give it up, can you?

    EARTHLY TREASURES ARE TEMPORARY

Everything you gather on earth can vanish in a moment —

    - Riches can disappear (Proverbs 23:5)

    - Fame fades away (Ecclesiastes 1:11)

    - Beauty and strength weaken with age (Isaiah 40:6–8)

The Bible says in 1 John 2:17, “And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”
Why then should we build our treasure on sand when we can build on the Rock — Jesus Christ?

    HEAVENLY TREASURE IS ETERNAL

When you serve God faithfully, love others, give generously, and obey His Word, you are storing treasure in heaven.

Matthew 19:21: “If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven.”

Acts of kindness, soul winning, prayer, holiness, and obedience all count as deposits in your heavenly account.

Heavenly treasures never decay, depreciate, or get stolen. They follow you even after death (Revelation 14:13).

    WHERE IS YOUR HEART?

The location of your treasure determines the direction of your heart.

If your treasure is in the world, your heart will chase worldly things.

But if your treasure is in heaven, your heart will be focused on godly things.

Colossians 3:1–2 says, “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above... Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

HOW TO LAY UP TREASURES IN HEAVEN

Live a life of faith and obedience to God.

    Love and serve others selflessly.

Support God’s work with your time, resources, and talent.

Preach the Gospel and win souls for Christ.

Maintain holiness and integrity in all you do.

Each act of obedience is a heavenly investment that yields eternal dividends.

    CONCLUSION
The world will pass away, but heaven will remain forever. Don’t let temporary pleasure rob you of eternal reward. Evaluate your life today — where is your treasure?

If your treasure is on earth, your heart will stay tied to things that perish. But if your treasure is in heaven, your heart will dwell where God reigns forever.

Let us make heaven our treasure, so that when life ends, we will not lose all, but gain eternity with Christ.

Matthew 6:21 — “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

    PRAY THIS PRAYER

Lord, help me to value heavenly things more than earthly gain.

Deliver me from every attachment to worldly treasures.

Give me grace to store up treasures in heaven through obedience and service.

Let my heart always be fixed on You, Lord Jesus.
