Physics would tell you that he would fall backward, away from the blow. Goliath fell forward, against the natural, bowing before the God of Israel.
Just a few chapters earlier Israel had lost the Ark of the Covenant to the Philistines and they placed in the temple of their god Dagon. In the morning Dagon had fallen face down to the Ark, bowing to the God of Israel.
