* DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 179*
*DATE: 29TH JUNE 2026*
*TOPIC: CHOSEN TO BE FRUITFUL_8*
*ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: JAMES 5:16 (NKJV)*
*"The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."*
*Devotional message:*
We continue with our series, Chosen to Be Fruitful. Yesterday, we saw that one of the primary areas in which God expects every believer to bear fruit is soul winning, which is both the privilege and responsibility of every follower of Christ.
Today, we turn our attention to another vital area of fruitfulness—the spiritual disciplines that contribute to our growth and maturity in Christ. The first of these disciplines is prayer.
Prayer is one of the greatest privileges God has given His children. However, God desires that our prayers be fruitful by producing results that accomplish His will. The Apostle James teaches that "the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." This reveals that righteousness is a vital key to effective prayer. Sin hinders fellowship with God and weakens our prayer life because it separates us from Him. Therefore, believers are called to pursue holiness and live in obedience so that their prayers may be effective.
Jesus also taught that prayer should flow from a sincere heart rather than a desire to impress people. He warned against praying merely to be seen by others, explaining that those who seek the praise of men have already received their reward. Instead, He instructed His disciples to pray in secret, knowing that the Father who sees in secret rewards openly. True prayer is an act of communion with God, not a performance before people.
Another reason prayers become unfruitful is when they are offered with selfish motives. James reminds us that some ask and do not receive because they ask with wrong motives, intending only to satisfy their own selfish desires. Fruitful prayer seeks first the will and the Kingdom of God before personal interests. When our desires align with God's purposes, our prayers become powerful instruments through which His will is accomplished on earth.
Therefore, if we desire our prayers to bear fruit, we must cultivate a life of righteousness, holiness, sincere devotion, pure motives, and a heart that longs to see God's Kingdom established. Our Heavenly Father delights in answering the prayers of His children. If earthly fathers know how to give good gifts to their children, how much more will our Heavenly Father graciously give what is good according to His perfect will?
Child of God, make prayer a daily lifestyle rather than an occasional activity. Draw near to God with a pure heart, pray according to His will, and trust Him to bring forth fruit through your prayers.
Fruitful prayer flows from a righteous life, sincere motives, and a heart that seeks the will and Kingdom of God above all else.
*Prayer:*
Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege of approaching Your throne of grace through prayer. Create in me a pure heart and help me to live a life of righteousness and holiness. Purify my motives so that my prayers may always seek Your will above my own desires. Teach me to commune with You faithfully and let my prayers bear fruit that brings glory to Your name and advances Your Kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
