> "Then he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet." Exodus 15:25

Moses led the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the Wilderness of Shur. But they arrived at a place where there was no water. For three days, they could find no trace of water. Surely, their chests were bursting with thirst. On one hand, there was the joy of their liberation; on the other, the agony of thirst. Caught between these two conflicting forces, they began to face a terrible trial. Eventually, the agony of thirst made them so miserable that the joy of liberation completely vanished. Now, it was a matter of life and death. Yet, they patiently followed Moses. Finally, when they found water in a place called Marah, life seemed to return to them. But alas! That water was so bitter that they could not drink it. At that point, their patience reached its limit. They began to murmur against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" One can easily understand how critical Moses' situation was then. Poor Moses! He too was thirsty. It was under God's guidance that he had brought the Israelites into the wilderness. Now, if no water could be found in the wilderness, what could Moses do? Yet, Moses had to do something, because it was under his leadership and relying on his word that so many people had come out of the land of Egypt. What could he do? Only one path lay open before him. That was prayer. So, he fell at God's feet, crying out to Him. But could God do anything in such a situation? Yes, He could. He is the Almighty. He showed Moses a tree. When that tree was thrown into the water, all the water became sweet. The children of Israel then drank the water to their satisfaction.

> "But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings." Malachi 4:2
