WITCHCRAFT IS ANY PRACTICE REPLACING GOD
Few subjects generate as much fear in Africa as witchcraft. Many people have grown up hearing stories of mysterious attacks, unexplained deaths, repeated failures, strange dreams, spiritual manipulation, and families living under constant fear of witches and wizards. While some stories may be exaggerated or based on superstition, the Bible leaves no doubt that occult practices and witchcraft are real and are contrary to the will of God.
In Scripture, witchcraft is any attempt to gain supernatural power, knowledge, or influence apart from the living God. Those who practiced sorcery often relied on occult spirits rather than the Holy Spirit. God strongly forbade His people from participating in such practices because they lead people away from Him and into spiritual bondage.
The greatest weapon of witchcraft is not always physical harmβit is deception. The enemy seeks to convince people that power, protection, wealth, healing, or success can be found outside God. Many are introduced to charms, secret societies, rituals, magical objects, or occult covenants with promises of prosperity or protection. What begins as curiosity can become lifelong bondage.
Without Christ, the effects can be devastating. A person may live in constant fear, experience spiritual oppression, lose the desire to pray, become enslaved to sinful habits, suffer broken relationships, and remain separated from God. Fear often replaces faith, darkness replaces truth, and hopelessness replaces peace. Whether through direct involvement or dependence on ungodly spiritual practices, the result is a life that moves further away from God's purpose.
For believers, the answer is not panic or revenge against those suspected of witchcraft. Our battle is spiritual, and our victory is found in Jesus Christ. He came to destroy the works of the devil, set captives free, and bring people into the Kingdom of God. No occult power is greater than the authority of Christ.
