Daily Devotion: Isaiah 43:1-2

“Israel, the LORD who created you says, “Do not be afraid – I will save you. I have called you by name – you are mine. When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burnt; the hard trials that come will not hurt you.”

In these days of turmoil and darkness, many people live in fear. Not only fear for their lives, but also fear of the future, fear of losing a job, fear of losing a loved one. But God promised us peace and, as you know, our God keeps His promises.

Oh, you may wonder why the peace is so long in coming, but you need not be afraid, it will come! Remember, all things happen in God’s time and His timing is always just right. What we are living now can be seen as a test of faith and, while we wait patiently for His peace, we need to remain strong and courageous in His Name.

How can you possibly do that?, you may ask. Yes, times are tough and getting worse by the minute, what with global pandemics, natural disasters, wars, famine and the general public orchestrating massive uprisings setting one man against his brother. How can one stay calm and stand firm in faith?

Maybe this will answer that question:

You need not fear for God is with you – Isaiah 12:2: “God is my saviour; I will trust him and not be afraid. The LORD gives me power and strength; he is my saviour.”
God is greater than our adversaries. The Spirit that lives in the believer is far stronger than the spirit in the world – Psalm 27:1: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; I will fear no one. The LORD protects me from all danger; I will never be afraid.”
If you see anger on the face of your enemy, do not fear that look, for God will give you strength – Jeremiah 1:8: “Do not be afraid of them, for I will be with you to protect you. I, the LORD, have spoken!”
If you need to speak up and make your stand against the evil forces at work, you will be given the power of speech – Jeremiah 1:9: “…Listen, I am giving you the words you must speak.”
God did indeed promise peace – Job 22:25-26: “Let Almighty God be your gold, and let him be silver, piled high for you. Then you will always trust in God and find that he is the source of your joy.”
