Good morning, brethren.

THE WORD FOR TODAY. SUNDAY SUNDAY JULY 5, 2026.
"FORGIVE FOR YOUR OWN SAKE!"
‘…Forgive as the Lord forgave you.’ Colossians 3:13 NIV
A LADY writes: ‘I found my husband with another woman. Although he begged me for forgiveness, I wanted my pound of flesh, so I filed for divorce even though our kids asked me not to. Two years later my husband was still trying to get me back, but I wanted none of it. He’d hurt me and I wanted revenge. Finally he gave up, married a young widow with two children, and rebuilt his life without me. They’re all so happy and I’m just a lonely, miserable woman, who let bitterness ruin her life.’ Now there’s no question that infidelity is wrong. But without forgiveness, what’s left? There’s a point at which anger stops being a healthy emotion and becomes a driving force. Like a drug, you need larger and larger doses. Once that happens, you move even further from forgiveness, because without anger you’ve no energy at all. It’s what drives hate groups and extremists. Without bitterness they’ve no reason to exist. If you take bigotry from the racist, revenge from the zealot and chauvinism from the sexist, what’s left? ‘Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.’ Bitterness is fatal; it kills your soul. So how can you stop yourself from becoming bitter when you’ve been hurt? a) By looking into the face of the person who hurt you and seeing, instead, the face of the One who showed you mercy when nobody else would have given you another chance. b) By realising that before the day, the week, the month or the year is out, you’ll be needing mercy yourself.

MD.ii. JESUS LIVES
"I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!" - Revelation 1:18
We do not serve a dead God; we serve a living God! We do not serve a god of wood or stone, but the living God! The basis, the Christian foundation of our faith is that Jesus did not remain dead, but He rose from the death. If we omit this important fact, we will remove the foundation of our faith. 'He is not here; He has risen, just as He said' (Matthew 28:6).
The first to testify about the gospel
Who were the first to hear that Jesus had risen? It was Mary Magdalene and the other Mary. And what were they asked to do when they received this message? They were to tell the disciples. This means they were to testify. These two women were chosen by God as the first to testify about the gospel. It is striking that for this God did not choose men, but women. We know from the Bible that there were many women following and serving Jesus.
Easter morning in your heart
Easter is a celebration to be happy, to worship Jesus and to exalt God. Dear reader, how are you? Maybe it looks more like Good Friday in your life! Everything is dark around you and you realize how sinful you are. But then suddenly it is Easter morning in your heart. The sun shines and you feel relieved and happy. Why? Because the burden of sin has been taken away from you. Your sins are gone. You become happy and get peace and rest in your heart which is not your own but comes from God.
Then you will sing: 'Because the Lord has risen, the new life begins. A life prepared by His death; a life in His glory.'

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. ⏤ Exodus 20:8
The Sabbath is the link between the paradise which has passed away and the paradise which is yet to come. ⏤ Andrew Murray
Dear God, we start this Sunday with You. It’s Your day, and we want to honor that. You’ve given us this day not as a burden but as a gift. We need the rest to stay healthy, and we need the spiritual refreshment to keep our hearts warm and full of love. Without this day, we might forget to keep You at the center of our lives. So we’re grateful for this day that You’ve set aside for us.
Please make this Sunday a day full of blessings. Help us to focus on You and let go of the world’s distractions. Let us hear Your gentle voice in the quiet moments, reminding us of Your love.
Fill our home with Your peace. Our minds have been stressed and overwhelmed by the week’s demands. Give us Your calm this morning. Take away our worries and anxieties. If the world has taken too much of our focus, let Your grace take over so that You are at the center of our lives again. Strengthen our love for You, so it pushes out any love for things that don’t matter.
Bless everything about this day. As we read Your word, help us understand it and let its teachings guide our lives. As we pray, may we receive the blessings we need: comfort when we’re sad, strength when we’re weak, guidance when we’re unsure, and wisdom when we don’t know what to do.
As we try to be a blessing to others, help us to have the same mindset as Jesus. We ask all this in Jesus' name. Amen.
