St. Maria Goretti St. Maria Goretti was born on October 16, 1890 in Italy. Her father was Luigi Goretti and mother Assunta Carlini. Her full name was Maria Teresa Goretti. Her family became very poor and moved to other places to work for other farmers, for livelihood. Her father died of malaria when Goretti was nine years old. Maria Goretti used to cook, sew and watch her infant at home. She died on July 6, 1902 by clutching a crucifix to her chest. Maria Goretti, was beatified on April 27, 1947 by pope Pius-XII and canonized on June 24, 1950 by pope Pius-XII.
