The Daily Dose with Ps. Simon. 8 July 2026
And they cried out all at once, saying, “Away with this man, and release Barabbas to us”. – Luke 23:18.
Barabbas in Aramaic means “son of the father”. His real name was Jesus Barabbas. Thus his name meant “Jesus, son of the father”. When Pilate asked the Jews whom he should release, the crowd shouted “Barabbas”. They used his surname to distinguish between the Lord Jesus and the criminal Jesus Barabbas. In summary: The crowd chose Jesus, son of the father, and killed Jesus, Son of the Father. Barabbas was the first man whose place Jesus took.
