In the midst of His agony and on the verge of death, Jesus asks His Father to forgive His killers. He could have asked for their immediate death, but instead He offers them forgiveness. Barabbas in Aramaic means “son of the father”. His real name was Jesus Barabbas. Thus his name meant “Jesus, son of the father”. When Pilate asked the Jews whom he should release, the crowd shouted “Barabbas”. They used his surname to distinguish between the Lord Jesus and the criminal Jesus Barabbas. Jesus experienced exactly what we do and even more. He faced temptation too, but overcame the desire to sin.
