Daily Devotion: Matthew 6:7-8

“When you pray, do not use a lot of meaningless words, as the pagans do, who think that their gods will hear them because their prayers are long. Do not be like them. Your Father already knows what you need before you ask him.”

Being a child of God means one needs to be in communication with God constantly. Praying should be like breathing, an essential part of living.

Ephesians 6:18: “Pray on every occasion, as the Spirit leads.”

How you pray is very important. God does not want you to pray lengthy prayers; He already knows what you need, so all He wants is for you to humble yourself in prayer and actually ASK Him. Of course there would be those who pray with the idea that they will simply receive whatever they ask for. They would say that God promised them that all they ask, they will receive. They are fools, for they seek their own desires.

James 4:3: “And when you ask, you do not receive it, because your motives are bad; you ask for things to use for your own pleasures.”

The subject of your prayer is therefore important. It must be humble, not self-righteous and seeking your own selfish fulfillment. It must be short and to the point. It must always include a blessing for all God’s children and it must always be filled with gratitude towards God. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you when you pray, ask as if whatever you pray for has already been done, because if you pray with a humble, faith filled heart, you will indeed receive what you ask for.

Philippians 4:6: “Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart.”

One very important aspect of prayer is that, as a Christian, you should NEVER GIVE UP. You need to persist in prayer, even if you feel like it is not working, continue to pray. Make a list of your prayer requests, seek solitude and ask God in particular for those essential things. Making sure that, through receiving what is asked, He would be glorified.

Matthew 6:6: “But when you pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to the Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you.”
