Daily Devotion: 1 John 2:1-2
“I am writing this to you, my children, so that you will not sin; but if anyone does sin, we have someone who pleads with the Father on our behalf – Jesus Christ, as the righteous one. And Christ himself is the means by which our sins are forgiven, and not our sins only, but also the sins of everyone.” GNB
Humans in our natural state, are all sinners. We have been born as innocents, but the world corrupted us. We are unworthy of God’s love and compassion, yet, through grace, He sent His Son to die on the cross so that we can receive His gift, eternal life.
Sin brings about spiritual death, which means that whoever remains in its clutches, will never receive forgiveness. The end result of sin is death.
Romans 6:23: “For sin pays its wage – death; but God’s free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord.” GNB
Those who turn their backs on Christ and refuse to accept Him as their Saviour will eventually pay the price for their behaviour.
Revelation 21:8: “But cowards, traitors, perverts, murderers, the immoral, those who practice magic, those who worship idols, and all liars - the place for them is the lake burning with fire and sulphur, which is the second death." GNB
All this anguish can be avoided if one will only decide to confess your sins and accept Jesus Christ into your heart. Remember, Jesus died for all of us, no exceptions, and He died for us DESPITE the fact that we are sinners. He died so that we need not suffer the punishment awaiting those who sin. Through His death we can now enter into a personal relationship with God. We can accept the Holy Spirit in our lives and live according to His guidance and His Word. Without Jesus’ sacrifice, we would be lost and destined to eternal damnation.
Isaiah 59:1-2: “Don’t think that the LORD is too weak to save you or too deaf to hear your call for help! It is because of your sins that he doesn’t hear you. It is your sins that separate you from God when you try to worship him.” GNB
2 Corinthians 5:21: “Christ was without sin, but for our sake God made him share our sin in order that in union with him we might share the righteousness of God.” GNB
1 John 1:9: “But if we confess our sins to God, he will keep his promise and do what is right; he will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing.” GNB
In the Old Testament the people used to sacrifice animals to atone for sins committed. The blood shed on the altars served as atonement for their trespasses. Then Jesus came and sacrificed Himself on the cross to become the final lamb, the last offering to bring us forgiveness from all our sins. His blood purifies us and makes us acceptable to God. He is the door through which we can enter into the sanctuary so that we can have a close and personal relationship with God Himself.
Ephesians 1:7-8: “For by the blood of Christ we are set free, that is, our sins are forgiven. How great is the grace of God, which he gave to us in such a large measure!” GNB
Hebrews 9:22: “…according to the Law almost everything is purified by blood, and sins are forgiven only if blood is poured out.” GNB
Are you ready to accept that this sacrifice was meant for you? Are you ready to call out to the Lord, confess your transgressions and accept Him as your Saviour?
Romans 10:13: “Everyone who calls out to the Lord for help will be saved.” GNB
Do not let this opportunity pass you by. Jesus is calling you TODAY.
