Prayer Ministry-8

Syllabus-18

"Pray continually. In everything give thanks." 1 Thessalonians 5:17

'Pray without ceasing' - Paul said this as a command. He did not say, you should try to pray without ceasing, or it is very good if you can pray without ceasing, or pray when you have time, etc. But he gave the believers an unambiguous command, you should pray without ceasing. Why did he say it so strongly? Because this is God's will for our lives. 1 Thess 5:16-18 is just one sentence: "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." The necessity of praying without ceasing to maintain spiritual life, and that this is the God-ordained way, is very clearly proven from this. Therefore, Paul did not say this as a request but as a command, pray without ceasing.

Now the question is, how can we pray continuously? Should we then give up all our work, eating and drinking and just sit and pray? Or could it have any other meaning? Paul himself did not give up all his work and sit and pray, nor did Paul say in that sense that we should pray continuously. But one of Paul's words is very valuable. He wrote in Philippians 1:21, "For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." That is, his only purpose in living in the world was for the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ was his life. Therefore, prayer was inherent in all his works. In that way, our lives should be lived only for the glory of Christ. When we live our lives in that way, prayer constantly resides in our hearts.

"Let tears flow like streams of water day and night; give yourself no rest, let not the apple of your eye cease." Lamentations 2:18.
