STRENGTHENED BY GOD'S SUFFICIENT GRACE
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." 2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV.
If there is anything that we love to hate more than the arrogance of others, it would have to be an awareness of our own weakness. We detest it so much that we invent ways to cover this personal inadequacy. Even Paul, the apostle, made alive unto God as he was, needed to be reminded of his own weakness. He was perturbed and disturbed times without number by a 'thorn in the flesh' (2 Corinthians 12:7). Though he didn’t name his thorn, but from the narrative it was obvious that it was a source of humiliation, restriction and hurt for him. Three times he begged the LORD to take it away, but his request was not granted. Instead, he used his thorn to tap into God’s all-sufficient grace.
The LORD Jesus promised him (and to us by extension), 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.' (v. 9). Going forward we noted that eventually Paul no longer regarded his thorn as a 'handicap of limitation' but as a 'heavenly advantage.' And his advantage was this: 'When he was weak in himself, he was strong in the LORD.' As we come to terms with, and accept our weaknesses, in Christ, we can be a strong weak person. The LORD Jesus is faithful to the end.
PRAYER BULLETS:
LORD Jesus, may I, through Your grace, though weak in myself be strengthened in You.
FURTHER READING:
Philippians 4:11-13; Isaiah 40:29-31; 2 Corinthians 9:8; Titus 2:11-12.
