DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 205
DATE: 24TH JULY 2026
TOPIC: FIRE EXTINGUISHERS (PART 2): GUARD AGAINST GLUTTONY
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:PROVERBS 25:16(AMP)
Have you found [pleasure sweet like] honey? Eat only as much as is sufficient for you, lest, being filled with it, you vomit it.
Devotional message:

Yesterday, we began our series on Fire Extinguishers and discovered that sin is one of the greatest enemies of spiritual fire because it separates us from God and weakens our fellowship with Him. Today, we consider another subtle fire extinguisher—gluttony, or the lack of self-control in our appetite.

In the Old Testament, God instructed the priests that the fire on the altar was never to go out (Leviticus 6:12–13). Spiritually, this teaches us that the fire of our devotion must be continually maintained through prayer, worship, fellowship, and the Word of God. A believer whose altar is consistently burning is one who intentionally cultivates communion with God.

However, one of the ways the enemy weakens spiritual fervor is through an undisciplined appetite. Overeating often leads to laziness, drowsiness, and a lack of spiritual alertness. Instead of seeking God in prayer or meditating on His Word, the flesh becomes dominant, and spiritual disciplines are gradually neglected. As prayer decreases, the fire upon the altar begins to fade.

The Holy Spirit produces self-control in the life of every believer (Galatians 5:22–23). This includes discipline in how we eat and how we care for our bodies. We should eat to strengthen the body for God's service, not to satisfy uncontrolled cravings. When the flesh is continually indulged while the spirit is neglected, spiritual sensitivity declines, making a believer more vulnerable to temptation and the attacks of the enemy.

Child of God, guard your spiritual altar by exercising self-control in every area of your life. Do not allow your appetite to master you. Instead, let the Holy Spirit govern your desires. As you maintain a balanced and disciplined life, you will remain spiritually alert, prayerful, and fervent in your walk with God.

A lack of self-control weakens spiritual discipline. Guard your appetite, maintain your prayer altar, and allow the Holy Spirit to keep your fire burning.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit, who enables me to live a disciplined life. Help me to exercise self-control in every area, including my appetite. Strengthen my prayer life and keep the fire on my altar continually burning. May I never allow the desires of the flesh to quench my passion for You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
