DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 206
DATE: 25TH JULY 2026
TOPIC: FIRE EXTINGUISHERS (PART 3): A PRAYERLESS AND WORDLESS LIFE
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: JEREMIAH 20.9(NKJV)
Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name." But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE:
Yesterday, we discovered that a lack of self-control, particularly through gluttony, can weaken our spiritual fervor and gradually extinguish the fire upon our altar. Today, we consider another dangerous fire extinguisher—a prayerless and wordless life.
It is one thing for God to ignite His fire within us, but it is another thing to sustain that fire. Fire cannot continue burning without fuel. In the same way, the fire of the Holy Spirit is sustained as believers continually feed on God's Word and maintain a consistent life of prayer. The prophet Jeremiah described God's Word as "a burning fire shut up in my bones" (Jeremiah 20:9), revealing that the Scriptures are the fuel that keeps spiritual passion alive.
Many believers experience powerful encounters with God during conferences, revival meetings, or church services, but the fire soon fades because they neglect their personal walk with God. They depend on public gatherings to keep them spiritually alive while their private altars remain neglected. Without daily prayer and meditation on the Word, the fire gradually grows dim until spiritual coldness and lukewarmness set in.
Jesus taught that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Just as our physical bodies require daily nourishment, our spirits also require continual feeding through the Scriptures and communion with God. A believer who neglects prayer and the Word will lack the spiritual strength to withstand temptation, grow in Christ, and remain fervent in serving the Lord.
Child of God, do not rely solely on the prayers of others or the atmosphere of church meetings to sustain your spiritual life. Build your own altar in the secret place. Spend time daily in prayer, meditate on God's Word, and cultivate intimacy with Him. As you continually feed your spirit, the fire within you will remain strong, your character will reflect Christ, and your life will become a testimony of His transforming power.
The fire of God is sustained through a consistent life of prayer and meditation on God's Word. A neglected altar will eventually produce a lukewarm believer.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Word and the privilege of prayer. Forgive me for every moment I have neglected my personal altar. Rekindle the fire within me and give me a hunger for Your presence and Your Word. Help me to remain faithful in prayer and steadfast in studying the Scriptures so that my life may continually burn for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
