Sts. Joachim and Anne By tradition Joachim and Anne were the parents of Holy Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Even though they were not mentioned in the New Testament, their story is mentioned in a document called Gospel of James. Tradition also says that Joachim and Anne were childless for a long time and were praying God to give them a child. They were very rich and they used to help the poor and also gave support to the Temple. But sometimes the priests refused to receive the help of Joachim and Anne, because of their childlessness since having no child was considered as a curse of God at those times. They first lived in Galilee and then moved to Jerusalem. One day an angel appeared to them and said they would have a child soon. Anne vowed at that time to dedicate her child to the God. Joachim and Anne brought up their child Mary to be a worthy mother of God. Mary must also have followed the example of her parents in rearing her Son Jesus. God had selected Joachim and Anne as the parents of the mother of His own begotten son itself shows that they are very saintly before God and God loved them very much. St. Joachim and St. Anne are also a part of the God's plan of salvation of mankind from sins.
