Good morning, brethren.
1. Morning devotion for today.

MD.i. MORNING TEA
THE WORD FOR TODAY
SUNDAY JULY 26, 2O26.
"NEVER STOP LEARNING"

'…You need someone to teach you…’  Hebrews 5:12 NIV

MARLENE LEFEVER quipped, β€˜Becoming an effective teacher is simple. You just prepare and prepare until drops of blood appear on your forehead.’ In the 1920s Charlie Chaplin was the most famous person in the world. Born into poverty, he worked on the stage to support himself and by the age of 17 he was a veteran performer. Then at the age of 29 he did something unheard of: he signed the entertainment industry’s first million-dollar contract. But he wasn’t successful simply because he had talent and drive. He was also teachable. He kept learning and perfecting his gift. Even at the height of his career, the highest paid performer in the world didn’t rest on his laurels. He said: β€˜When I watch one of my pictures, I pay attention to what the audience doesn’t laugh at. If several audiences don’t laugh at a stunt, I tear it apart and try to discover what’s wrong. On the other hand, if I hear laughter I hadn’t expected, I ask myself why that particular thing rang the bell with the audience.’ The truth is, if Charlie Chaplin had replaced teachability with complacency and arrogance, we probably wouldn’t even remember his name today. But he didn’t. He never forgot the basics and he committed himself to learning. Eventually he co-founded United Artists, a mega-movie company that’s still in business today. There’s an important principle in this story. The Bible says, β€˜Though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s Word all over again.’ If you want God to use you, stay teachable and never stop learning.

```KEY VERSE:``` _*"Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly" (JONAH 2:1).*_
*Sometimes, people wait until they are buffeted by severe suffering, when it appears as if all hope is lost, when their human efforts have failed, before seeking God. They miss the crucial turning point, unlike David who cried out to God: "early will I seek thee... my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee." How wise it is for people to turn to the Lord early, for then they are able to prevent the experiences that leave them bruised all through life, as happened to Jonah.*
*Jonah's suffering was avoidable. He was sent by God to take the message of salvation to Nineveh, but instead of obeying, he consciously rebelled against God. He bought a ticket and boarded a ship heading in the wrong direction. He thought he could outwit God. But there is no hiding place from God. He trailed Jonah in his escape ship with a tempest, and when he was about to be thrown into the sea, God prepared a whale to swallow him. This is in itself an act of mercy, for it is physically impossible to be in the belly of the whale for three days without dying. It means that God allowed Jonah to sink to the depth of hopelessness in the valley of the shadow of death, and yet granted him the grace to consciously bow at last, to His demands.*
*Deep in the belly of the fish, Jonah at last, cried out for mercy from God. He was mortified at the prospect of drowning at sea, and being eternally separated from God. He remembered God, and began to plead passionately to Him for another chance at life. He admitted that he had forsaken his only source of mercy. Now repentant, Jonah pledged his loyalty to God, and promised to redeem his vows, which presumably, included going anywhere the Lord sent him. Expectedly, God graciously extended His salvation to him, and commanded the whale to vomit out Jonah.*
*You must avoid being the architect of your misfortune, and flee from the temptation to reject God's word. You do not need to go through near-death experiences before retracing your steps from rebellion and disobedience. Where you have strayed from God's leading and guidance, and have erected your own devices, or excused your moral failures and weakness in character, you must seek God's mercy, asking for grace to follow Him faithfully, serve Him diligently and obey Him completely. Once He sees your sincerity of purpose, He will pardon and bring you back to His perfect will.*
The doctrine of the rapture is not misplaced. Peter and the other apostles heard Christ when He told them He would prepare a place for them in His Father's house and return to take them to Himself to live with Him forever.*
*Yet, believers must be aware that Christ also said some might be careless and miss going with Him when He returns. Such careless believers would be left behind. Our passage for today gives hope to all saints of God. It reassures us that Christ would come back for His children, both the living and the dead - those who might die before His return.*
*FROM THE DEPTHS TO DELIVERANCE: LESSONS FROM JONAH'S PRAYER*
*TEXT:* JONAH 2:1–10
‭
1. Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,
2. and said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, And he heard me; Out of the belly of hell cried I, And thou heardest my voice.
3. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; And the floods compassed me about: All thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
4. Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; Yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
5. The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: The depth closed me round about, The weeds were wrapped about my head.
6. I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; The earth with her bars was about me for ever: Yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
7. When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: And my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
8. They that observe lying vanities Forsake their own mercy.
9. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
10. And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
*Timeless Truth:*
_‭The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, And delivereth them out of all their troubles._ (Psalm 34:17)
*INTRODUCTION*
On October 13, 2010, the world watched with amazement as 33 Chilean miners were rescued after spending 69 days trapped nearly 2,300 feet underground following a mine collapse. For weeks, they lived in darkness with limited supplies, uncertain whether they would ever see daylight again. Yet they prayed together, encouraged one another, and held on to hope until the day rescue finally came. Their deliverance became an international testimony of perseverance and hope in seemingly impossible circumstances.
Jonah's experience was even more extraordinary. Because of his disobedience, he found himself in the depths of the sea and inside a great fish. What seemed like the end of his life became the place where he rediscovered the mercy of God. In the darkest moment of his life, Jonah prayed and God answered. Often, God allows us to reach the depths of helplessness so that we may discover the heights of His grace. *β€œCall upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver thee, and thou shall glorify Me.”* ( Psalm 50:15)
The book of Jonah chapter 2 teaches us that sincere repentance, steadfast faith and grateful obedience open the door to God's restoring mercy. Jonah discovered that God's mercy is greater than human failure and that no circumstance is beyond His power to redeem.
The question for each of us today is: When God graciously delivers and restores us, will we return to our old ways, or will we rise in grateful obedience and faithfully fulfill His calling?
Jonah's prayer reminds us that no place is too deep for God's grace. The depths of the sea could not separate Jonah from the presence of the Lord. What appeared to be a prison became a place of prayer, repentance and renewal. Many believers experience seasons when they feel overwhelmed by failure, guilt, disappointment or suffering. Jonah's testimony assures us that God hears the cry of the repentant heart.
*1. The Cry of Genuine Repentance*
a. From inside the great fish, Jonah turned to God in humble prayer, which is the recognition of his distress. Jonah acknowledged that he was in great trouble and could not save himself.
‭*The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: A broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.* (Psalm 51:17) God hears the humble cry of those who sincerely turn back to Him. Faith clings to God's mercy, rejects false hopes and worships Him even in adversity.
b. Jonah recognized that God was still in control, even in the midst of his suffering. Though feeling cast away, Jonah looked again toward God's holy temple in faith. God welcomes sincere repentance. No matter how far we have wandered, His mercy remains available to those who return to Him.
*Questions*
i. When I fail, do I run from God or return to Him in repentance?
ii. Am I willing to acknowledge God's sovereignty even during painful experiences?
*2. The Confidence of Growing Faith*
a. Although Jonah remained inside the fish, his prayer shifted from despair to confident trust.
Jonah remembered the Lord even when hope seemed to disappear. Jonah declared that those who cling to worthless idols forsake God's mercy.
*β€œLittle children, keep yourselves from idols.”* (1 John 5:21)
b. Jonah promised to offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and fulfill his vows. True faith remembers God's mercy, rejects false securities, and responds with worship and renewed commitment.
*Questions*
i What "idols" or misplaced confidences might be competing with my trust in God?
ii. Do I thank God only after deliverance or do I worship Him while I am still waiting?
*3. The Celebration of God's Great Deliverance*
a. God answered Jonah's prayer and commanded the fish to release him onto dry land. God delivers His people according to His perfect timing and restores them for His purposes.
The same God who prepared the fish also commanded it to release Jonah. God delivered Jonah at exactly the right moment.*β€œHe has made everything beautiful in its time.”* (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
b. God restored Jonah, not merely for his comfort, but so he could fulfill the mission to Nineveh.
God's deliverance is never an end in itself. He restores us so that we may return to faithful service.
*Questions*
i. After experiencing God's deliverance, am I faithfully fulfilling His purpose for my life?
ii. Do I trust God's timing, even when His answer seems delayed?
*Prayer Points*
1. β€œLord, give me a humble heart that quickly turns back to You whenever I stray.”
2. β€œFather, strengthen my faith to trust You even when I cannot see the way forward.”
3. β€œLord, restore every area of my life that has been damaged by sin, failure or discouragement.”
4. Heavenly Father, help me obey Your calling faithfully and fulfill the purpose for which You have saved me.
2. Morning Prayer for today.
MP.i. Morning Prayer
Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⏀ 1 Peter 1:3
The resurrection of Jesus changes the face of death for all His people. Death is no longer a prison, but a passage into God's presence. ⏀ John Piper
Our hearts are glad this morning, our Father, as we welcome this new Sunday. Everything within us rejoices and praises You. May our lives rise from the shadows of death into beauty and blessedness.
We thank You for all that the resurrection of Jesus means to us: that death could not hold Him, that He lives now to intercede for us in Heaven, and also to be our Friend and Companion in this world. May the gifts of His grace be poured out upon us. May the Holy Spirit fill our hearts and enrich our lives.
Prepare us for the work and worship of this day. Bless the words we have read from Your holy word. May they become in us divine inspirations, kindling holy thoughts, pure desires, aspirations after holiness, and a love that will make our lives like altars of incense before You.
Bless our home life on this day of rest. Draw us closer together as a family. May our love become deeper, more tender, and more unselfish as we join in worship. May Your blessing rest upon those who preach Your word and upon all who gather for worship. We pray especially for those who carry Your word to those in need. May they have Your power, and may their ministries be blessed.
We give ourselves to You for this day. We desire to make it a day unstained by sinful thoughts or words, a day for receiving new measures of the Holy Spirit, a day for coming very close to Jesus, a day for giving out blessings to others. Forgive us all our sins. Cleanse and purify our lives. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: And my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. 8. They that observe lying vanities Forsake their own mercy. 9. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD. 10. And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. *Timeless Truth:* _‭The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, And delivereth them out of all their troubles._ (Psalm 34:17) *INTRODUCTION* On October 13, 2010, the world watched with amazement as 33 Chilean miners were rescued after spending 69 days trapped nearly 2,300 feet underground following a mine collapse. For weeks, they lived in darkness with limited supplies, uncertain whether they would ever see daylight again. Yet they prayed together, encouraged one another, and held on to hope until the day rescue finally came. Their deliverance became an international testimony of perseverance and hope in seemingly impossible circumstances. Jonah's experience was even more extraordinary. Because of his disobedience, he found himself in the depths of the sea and inside a great fish. What seemed like the end of his life became the place where he rediscovered the mercy of God. In the darkest moment of his life, Jonah prayed and God answered. Often, God allows us to reach the depths of helplessness so that we may discover the heights of His grace. *β€œCall upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver thee, and thou shall glorify Me.”* ( Psalm 50:15) The book of Jonah chapter 2 teaches us that sincere repentance, steadfast faith and grateful obedience open the door to God's restoring mercy. Jonah discovered that God's mercy is greater than human failure and that no circumstance is beyond His power to redeem. The question for each of us today is: When God graciously delivers and restores us, will we return to our old ways, or will we rise in grateful obedience and faithfully fulfill His calling? Jonah's prayer reminds us that no place is too deep for God's grace. The depths of the sea could not separate Jonah from the presence of the Lord. What appeared to be a prison became a place of prayer, repentance and renewal. Many believers experience seasons when they feel overwhelmed by failure, guilt, disappointment or suffering. Jonah's testimony assures us that God hears the cry of the repentant heart. *1. The Cry of Genuine Repentance* a. From inside the great fish, Jonah turned to God in humble prayer, which is the recognition of his distress. Jonah acknowledged that he was in great trouble and could not save himself. ‭*The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: A broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.* (Psalm 51:17) God hears the humble cry of those who sincerely turn back to Him. Faith clings to God's mercy, rejects false hopes and worships Him even in adversity. b. Jonah recognized that God was still in control, even in the midst of his suffering. Though feeling cast away, Jonah looked again toward God's holy temple in faith. God welcomes sincere repentance. No matter how far we have wandered, His mercy remains available to those who return to Him. *Questions* i. When I fail, do I run from God or return to Him in repentance? ii. Am I willing to acknowledge God's sovereignty even during painful experiences? *2. The Confidence of Growing Faith* a. Although Jonah remained inside the fish, his prayer shifted from despair to confident trust. Jonah remembered the Lord even when hope seemed to disappear. Jonah declared that those who cling to worthless idols forsake God's mercy. *β€œLittle children, keep yourselves from idols.”* (1 John 5:21) b. Jonah promised to offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and fulfill his vows. True faith remembers God's mercy, rejects false securities, and responds with worship and renewed commitment. *Questions* i What "idols" or misplaced confidences might be competing with my trust in God? ii. Do I thank God only after deliverance or do I worship Him while I am still waiting? *3. The Celebration of God's Great Deliverance* a. God answered Jonah's prayer and commanded the fish to release him onto dry land. God delivers His people according to His perfect timing and restores them for His purposes. The same God who prepared the fish also commanded it to release Jonah. God delivered Jonah at exactly the right moment.*β€œHe has made everything beautiful in its time.”* (Ecclesiastes 3:11) b. God restored Jonah, not merely for his comfort, but so he could fulfill the mission to Nineveh. God's deliverance is never an end in itself. He restores us so that we may return to faithful service. *Questions* i. After experiencing God's deliverance, am I faithfully fulfilling His purpose for my life? ii. Do I trust God's timing, even when His answer seems delayed? *Prayer Points* 1. β€œLord, give me a humble heart that quickly turns back to You whenever I stray.β€πŸ™ 2. β€œFather, strengthen my faith to trust You even when I cannot see the way forward.β€πŸ™ 3. β€œLord, restore every area of my life that has been damaged by sin, failure or discouragement.β€πŸ™ 4. Heavenly Father, help me obey Your calling faithfully and fulfill the purpose for which You have saved me.πŸ™ *Hymn:* Amazing Grace *THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EXODUS 33-36. 2. Morning Prayer for today. MP.i. Morning Prayer Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⏀ 1 Peter 1:3 The resurrection of Jesus changes the face of death for all His people. Death is no longer a prison, but a passage into God's presence. ⏀ John Piper Our hearts are glad this morning, our Father, as we welcome this new Sunday. Everything within us rejoices and praises You. May our lives rise from the shadows of death into beauty and blessedness. We thank You for all that the resurrection of Jesus means to us: that death could not hold Him, that He lives now to intercede for us in Heaven, and also to be our Friend and Companion in this world. May the gifts of His grace be poured out upon us. May the Holy Spirit fill our hearts and enrich our lives. Prepare us for the work and worship of this day. Bless the words we have read from Your holy word. May they become in us divine inspirations, kindling holy thoughts, pure desires, aspirations after holiness, and a love that will make our lives like altars of incense before You. Bless our home life on this day of rest. Draw us closer together as a family. May our love become deeper, more tender, and more unselfish as we join in worship. May Your blessing rest upon those who preach Your word and upon all who gather for worship. We pray especially for those who carry Your word to those in need. May they have Your power, and may their ministries be blessed. We give ourselves to You for this day. We desire to make it a day unstained by sinful thoughts or words, a day for receiving new measures of the Holy Spirit, a day for coming very close to Jesus, a day for giving out blessings to others. Forgive us all our sins. Cleanse and purify our lives. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. https://www.youdevotion.com/daily-prayer/miller/21/morning #taptapstudio #youdevotion.
