DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 209
DATE: 28TH JULY 2026
TOPIC: FIRE EXTINGUISHERS (PART 6)
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:33 (NKJV)
"Do not be deceived: 'Evil company corrupts good habits.'"
Devotional message:

Yesterday, we saw that unforgiveness and bitterness choke the Word of God, reducing our spiritual fervency and gradually extinguishing the fire of God within us. Today, we consider another dangerous fire extinguisher—wrong associations.

The people we associate with greatly influence our spiritual lives. Proverbs tells us that "as iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend" (Proverbs 27:17). In the same way, wrong associations can make a spiritually sharp believer become spiritually dull. The prophet Isaiah confessed, "I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips" (Isaiah 6:5), revealing how our environment and companions can influence our speech, thoughts, and conduct.

Many believers experience a decline in their spiritual fire because they continue to cling to relationships, conversations, and activities that do not glorify God. Instead of encouraging prayer, holiness, and the study of God's Word, such associations promote sinful lifestyles, ungodly conversations, and worldly pleasures. As a result, spiritual sensitivity is gradually lost, and the fire that once burned brightly begins to fade.

Wrong associations are not limited to friends alone. They also include the music we listen to, the films and videos we watch, the content we consume on social media, and every influence that enters our lives through our eyes and ears. These gateways shape our thoughts and affections. When they are continually filled with things that oppose God's holiness, they grieve the Holy Spirit and quench the fire He has ignited within us.

The Apostle Paul urges believers to "come out from among them and be separate" (2 Corinthians 6:17). This is not a call to withdraw from the world completely, but to guard our hearts from influences that corrupt our character and weaken our devotion to Christ. If we desire to remain on fire for God, we must intentionally choose relationships and environments that strengthen our faith and draw us closer to Him.

Child of God, examine your associations today. Surround yourself with people who challenge you to love God more deeply, pursue holiness, and remain faithful to His calling. Guard what enters your eyes and ears, for these are gateways to your heart. As you do, the fire of God within you will continue to burn brightly and your life will glorify Christ.

Wrong associations corrupt godly character and gradually quench spiritual fire. Choose relationships and influences that strengthen your walk with God.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to live a holy and separated life. Give me wisdom to choose relationships and influences that draw me closer to You. Help me to guard my eyes, my ears, and my heart from everything that grieves Your Spirit. Surround me with godly companions who will encourage me to remain faithful and keep the fire of Your presence burning in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
