Saying Little
"The one who knows much says little; an understanding person remains calm." Proverbs 17:27 (MSG)
There is time when silence is golden according to Ecclesiastes 3:7: “a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;” There are times when to speak is to violate the moment; when silence represents the highest respect. Sometimes there is need to be quiet to be heard! God has not wired us to speak every time because we cannot be right every time. Ignorance is always eager to speak.
Nature even demands times of silence by the way God gave us ears that are not made to shut, and mouth that has a “lock” and “key”. Silence is the ultimate weapon of power. Some people speak from experience; others, from experience, do not speak. You are unlikely to be hurt by anything you did not say when you exercise caution according to James 1:19 “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:” This is your day.
Wisdom Fountain: "The right word may be effective, but no word was ever as effective as a rightly timed pause."
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for your constant presence in my life. Today, I ask that You fill me afresh with wisdom and a quiet mind. Help me to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Teach me the discipline of the two-second pause. Give me the discernment to know when my words will bring healing, and when my silence will bring peace. Guard my tongue from careless words, and let the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you in Jesus’ name.
