DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 212
DATE: 31ST JULY 2026
TOPIC: IGNITING THE FIRE (PART 2): A CONSISTENT PRAYER LIFE
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: LEVITICUS 6:13 (NKJV)
"The fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out."
Devotional message:
Yesterday, we saw that the foundation of burning for God is establishing a personal relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. Today, we look at the second key to sustaining spiritual fire.
Although God is the One who ignites the fire within us, it is our responsibility to keep that fire burning. In the book of Leviticus, God commanded that the fire on the altar must never go out. This teaches us that spiritual fire must be continually maintained. One of the primary ways we do this is through a consistent life of prayer.
Jesus taught that "men always ought to pray and not lose heart" (Luke 18:1), while the Apostle Paul exhorted believers to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Prayer is not merely an emergency response when we are in trouble; it is a lifestyle of continual fellowship and communion with God. Just as our bodies require a constant supply of oxygen to remain alive, our spirits require a consistent prayer life to remain vibrant and on fire for God.
When prayer becomes irregular, our intimacy with God begins to weaken, and our spiritual fire gradually loses its intensity. If this pattern continues, spiritual lukewarmness and coldness eventually follow. However, when we remain faithful in prayer, we continually draw near to God, and He draws near to us (James 4:8). As we abide in His presence, His life and power continually flow into us, keeping the fire of the Holy Spirit burning brightly.
Child of God, do not reduce prayer to a means of presenting requests before God. Let it become your daily communion with your Heavenly Father. Make time to seek His face, worship Him, listen to His voice, and enjoy His presence. A believer who continually abides in prayer will continually burn with holy passion and become a vessel through whom God can impact the world.
God ignites the fire, but we keep it burning through a consistent lifestyle of prayer and fellowship with Him.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege of drawing near to You through prayer. Teach me to develop a consistent prayer life and to delight in Your presence daily. Deliver me from spiritual laziness and help me to remain faithful in communion with You. Let the fire of the Holy Spirit continually burn upon the altar of my heart, and may my life bring glory to Your name. In Jesus' name, Amen.
