Power of prayer-4
Syllabus-34
"When he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth." And the dead man came forth. John 11 : 43
Lazarus, the beloved disciple of the Lord Jesus, had been dead for four days in the grave. He had begun to rot and was filled with worms. He went to the tomb and called out, "Lazarus, come out," and he came out dead. What a wonderful power of prayer! His flesh was certainly dead, but the Lord Jesus gave Lazarus life.
Many may think that the Lord Jesus was God Himself and had His own power to save Lazarus; that is why that work was possible.
It is true that He was the Son of God and had His own power. But if we look closely at this incident, we see that He did not use His own power to save Lazarus, but prayed. For before He saved Lazarus, it is written, โHe lifted up His eyes and said, Father, I thank Thee, that Thou hast heard My prayer.โ John 11:41. So He prayed to God the Father to restore Lazarus to life. Although He was the Son of God and had many powers, yet He had all the feelings of human life because He took on a body of flesh. Hebrews 4:15 says, โHe was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.โ He had thirst, hunger, and weariness. All the temptations of the flesh came upon Him; but He remained connected to the Father and prayed all the time. Hebrews 5:7 says, โIn the days of his flesh he offered up prayers and supplications to his Father, with strong crying and tears.โ So he raised Lazarus as a human being. This is a great proof of the power of prayer.
"And I have chosen you, that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you."
John 15: 16 .
