SAMSON, a judge of Israel chosen by God to begin delivering Israel from the Philistines. "The Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat. But he told neither his father nor his mother what he had done". Samson encounters a roaring young lion while walking to Timnah to meet a Philistine woman. Instead of using a weapon, Samson relies on sudden divine power given by God's Spirit to rip the lion apart easily. Samson keeps this feat a secret, not even telling his parents who were walking with him earlier.
