Good morning God
As we continue meditating on the Sermon on the Mount, we see Jesus teaching His disciples the principles of the Kingdom of Heaven. As the King, Jesus reveals a heavenly perspective that is completely different from the values and standards of this world. He teaches His followers how to live as citizens of God’s Kingdom and how true blessing is found in living according to God’s will.
Matthew presents Jesus as the promised Messiah who has come to fulfill God’s redemptive plan for humanity. Jesus is the King, and He has established a Kingdom whose values are different from those of the world. Therefore, Jesus begins His teaching with a series of statements about those who are truly blessed.
After saying, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3), Jesus declares, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Matthew 5:4).
Biblical mourning is deeper than ordinary sorrow. It includes grieving over our sin, recognizing our shortcomings, and being broken over the ways we fall short of God’s glory. As children of God, we should desire to please Him and continually turn back to Him when we fail.
Scripture teaches, “Godly sorrow produces repentance,” while worldly sorrow leads to death (2 Corinthians 7:10). Godly mourning brings us to genuine repentance, deepens our reverence for God, and transforms our lives into the likeness of Christ.
What a beautiful promise: those who mourn before God will be comforted by Him. May we always have humble hearts that recognize our need for God’s grace.
Have a blessed day. Love God and love people.
