RUTH is a heroic Moabite widow in the Bible who shows deep loyalty to her mother-in-law, Naomi. She moves to Bethlehem, accepts the God of Israel, marries a kind landowner named Boaz, and becomes the great-grandmother of King David and an ancestor of Jesus. A famine forces an Israelite family to move to Moab. The father and two sons die, leaving Naomi and her foreign daughters-in-law, Ruth and Orpah, all widowed. Naomi decides to go home to Bethlehem. Orpah stays in Moab, but Ruth pledges loyalty to Naomi. "Your people will be my people, and your God my God". Boaz acts as a family protector. He marries Ruth, redeeming their property and restoring family hope.
