Demons & Devils Believe?

James 2:19 NASB
“You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.”

Believing God is, as James pointed out, one thing, but putting your trust in him alone for your salvation is another. Besides, whether James still hadn’t fully grasped new covenant thinking or not when the letter was penned, Hebrews 11:1 makes it clear that seeing isn’t believing. Believing is placing faith in Jesus without even seeing.

Meanwhile, James’ entire point of the chapter is to demonstrate that seeing IS believing for the rest of the unsaved. He wants us to “prove” our faith to unbelievers by showing it through good works towards others.

We, of course, need not prove anything to anyone. We just stand sure in our faith and follow the directions of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Good works will flow out of our grateful hearts for the grace shown to us. We will want to do good for others.

Devils believe, but they do not believe into salvation. They believe the word of God, but they don’t place their trust, their reliance or their confidence in Jesus. They are still in rebellion.

Christian believers trust in, rely on and give full confidence to Jesus for their salvation. They are not in rebellion. They have willingly submitted to Jesus’ lordship in their lives.

Our kind of belief is Bible belief in Jesus. Bible belief is not just a warm and fuzzy feeling it must be true. Demons 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 it’s true. Bible belief is to trust in, rely on, and give full confidence to Jesus for your salvation. Demons 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 do that.
