DORCAS, also named Tabitha, was a generous early Christian disciple living in Joppa as recorded in Acts 9:36–43. Known for her constant good works and sewing clothes for the poor, she fell sick and died. The apostle Peter came, prayed and miraculously raised her back to life. She is uniquely referred to as a female disciple. She was "full of good works and acts of charity," specifically helping local widows. Grieving widows showed Peter the garments she made. Peter knelt, prayed and said, "Tabitha, get up," restoring her to life.
