PRISCILLA AND AQUILA were a first-century married couple and vital missionary partners of the Apostle Paul. They met Paul in Corinth, shared the same tentmaking trade, hosted house churches and famously mentored the eloquent preacher Apollos. They shared a profession with Paul, allowing them to work and travel together. In Ephesus, they pulled the gifted speaker Apollos aside to explain "the way of God more adequately" because his knowledge was incomplete. Paul wrote in Romans 16:3–4 that the couple "risked their own necks" to save his life, earning the gratitude of all Gentile churches. They regularly opened their home as a gathering place for local believers, both in Ephesus and Rome.
