Good evening, brethren.
1. Evening devotion for today.

ED.i. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST*
(COCIN DEVOTIONAL)

*DATE:*
THURSDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER, 2026.

*SUB-THEME:*
THE FAMILY AND THE GRACE OF GOD.

*TOPIC:*
HUSBAND: A GIFT TO THE WIFE.

*TEXT:*
SONGS OF SONGS 2:1-7.
1. I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys.
2. Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the young women.
3. Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste.
4. Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love.
5. Strengthen me with raisins, refresh me with apples, for I am faint with love.
6. His left arm is under my head, and his right arm embraces me.
7. Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does of the field: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.

*TOPIC:*
HUSBAND: A GIFT TO THE WIFE.

*THE MESSAGE:*
The genuine love that binds husbands and wife comes from God. Our text makes it clear that God directs a man to a woman. At first sight, he fell in love with her and would not want a competitor. His love and care for his wife please her so much that she does not desire any other. Indeed, this is a good gift. Their love was not based on material things. Sadly, some families struggle because their love for each other is centred on material things. The foundation of such homes is shaky and easily crumbles when lack or poverty sets in. Husbands, do you love your wife as God desires? Remember, you are a gift to your wife, so treat her well.

*REFLECTION:*
Cherish your spouse.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, thank You for the gift of husbands. Amen.

*MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:*
PROVERBS 3:34.
He mocks proud mocker but gives grace to the humble and oppressed.

*TODAY'S BIBLE READING PLAN:*
HOSEA 7-8.

ED.ii. HOLY WATER

"But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life." - John 4:14

There is nothing on this earth that gives man everlasting satisfaction. Everything is temporary, just for a while. Everybody longs for complete fulfillment. However, if we find something which makes us happy, this too is temporary and you would need a new 'shot' for satisfaction over and over again. Our desire for complete fulfillment cannot be satisfied.

Living water

Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at a well and tells her that everyone who drinks this earthly water does not quench their thirst, because it is only temporary. Jesus gives us the living water, the eternal life. It is free.

'If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water' (John 4:10).

This method also applies for today. You just have to ask and the Lord will give it to you. The big problem is that many do not know that there is eternal life for them and that is why they do not ask for it. However, if you ask for it, God will give it as a free gift.

The gift of eternal life

You can receive Divine life through 'rebirth'. Eternal life is a gift of grace from God. Jesus talks about the 'gift from God'. You do not have to do anything but accept it.

Jesus has already paid for it when He died on the cross. There we find forgiveness and the promise of an eternal life. This gift is the only true, everlasting satisfaction people are able to receive spiritually. This is the living water Jesus is talking about. Jesus is the Fountain who wants the living water, the Holy Spirit, to flow into us.

2. Evening Prayer for today.

EP.i. Evening Prayer

Thou wilt keep Moses Ishaku in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee. ⏤ Isaiah 26:3

Prayer is the soul's sincere desire, uttered or unexpressed. ⏤ James Montgomery

Father, though it’s dark around us, it is always light with You. We come at nightfall to thank You for the day’s mercies and to confess our sins. Blot out every transgression. Wash us, and we shall be whiter than snow. Accept what we bring to You tonight, and let Your blessing be upon it all.

We ask You for Your special peace. We remember Your promise to keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on You. We desire to keep our minds stayed on You. You are an everlasting rock. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. You are the everlasting Father. Nothing ever disturbs Your security. We would lean . . .
Our weakness on Your strength,
Our ignorance on Your wisdom,
Our trembling insecurity on Your unchangeableness.

We would rest in You. Help us to rest in You as birds rest in their nests in the great rock, and not be afraid.

Save us from all fear. We are only little children in this world of danger, but we are safe in You. Help us, therefore, to trust and never be afraid. Cover us with Your sheltering wings. Hold us in the clasp of Your hand—in the embrace of Your everlasting arms. Preserve us from . . .
The fascinations of the world,
The assaults of the tempter,
The insidious wickedness of our own hearts.

May You bless our mutual influence as a home. We love each other; may our love grow more tender. Sometimes we fail to show our love, even appearing cold, indifferent, and ungracious. Help us to be kindly affectionate in manner as well as loving in heart.

We pray for our neighbors and friends. May Your grace be upon them.

Comfort the sorrowful,
Relieve the distressed,
Have mercy upon the sinful.

We ask all in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
