THE WORD FOR TODAY. FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 4, 2O26.
"ARGUING; IT'S A WASTE OF TIME"
'A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.’ Proverbs 15:1 NAS
DO YOU sometimes find yourself saying, ‘I get so angry when they refuse to listen to my viewpoint. How can I make them listen and hear what I’m trying to say?’ Unless you’re involved in an official debate, arguing with someone who’s unwilling to listen is useless and a waste of time. State your viewpoint with clarity and purpose, but don’t become defensive and argumentative if it’s not received. You’ll only hurt yourself and the relationship if you become argumentative. Don’t allow anyone to draw you into strife or arguing. Hold your tongue, and try to remember these words of wisdom: ‘A gentle anger turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise makes knowledge acceptable, but the mouth of a fool spurts folly’ (Proverbs 15:2 NAS). What must surely be one of the most frustrating conversations in history was reported in Theatre Arts Magazine. A subscriber, wishing to report on a particular upcoming event in his community, dialled directory enquiries to get the magazine’s telephone number. The operator drawled, ‘Sorry, but there’s nobody listed by the name of Theodore Arts’’. The subscriber insisted, ‘It’s not a person; it’s a publication. I want Theatre Arts.’ The operator responded, this time a little louder. ‘I told you, we have no listing for Theodore Arts in this city. Perhaps he lives in another city.’ By now the subscriber was thoroughly peeved. ‘Confound it, the word is theatre: T-H-E-A-T-R-E!’ The operator came back with equal certainty in her voice, ‘That – is not the way to spell Theodore.’ Arguing; it’s a waste of time.

*INTRODUCTION*
There is unquantiable power stored in the Word of God which can only be released through revelation knowledge and faith in whatever comes from the mouth of the Lord. As a result of its supernatural inspiration, import, impact and influence, anyone who believes the Word will experience the supernatural power of God. The psalmist, in the text, listed some of the supernatural manifestations of the Word of God. The Bible is a supernatural Book producing supernatural effects on those who read and study to believe and act upon it.
*1. Strength from Defeat*
*"My soul cleaveth unto the dust"*. This is indicative of defeat, fall, depression and powerlessness. How do you handle this? The psalmist shows the best secret by asking God to use His Word to make him alive. *"Quicken thou me according to thy word"*. The Word of God is life and God never does anything outside His Word. When the dose of the Word of God is mixed with faith through the help of the Holy Spirit, spiritual life and strength is injected into the human spirit and make it lively and strong.
*Question*
Do you dive into the Word of God whenever it appears you are weak and getting defeated?
*2. Spiritual Direction*
The psalmist was first opened to God when he confessed all his actions and ways to God. *"I have declared my ways, and thou heardest me"*. Definitely, such confession will be heard by God. Why was he opening up his ways to God when God did not ask him to do so? He wanted God to examine, instruct, correct and teach him. The only way God could do it was through His Word. *"Teach me thy statutes"*. Without studying the Word, all hope and expectation of hearing from God will be wasted.
*Question*
Do you receive and act on corrections, instructions and rebuke from the Word of God?
*3. Sensitivity to the Doctrines*
One thing is to read the Word of God, perhaps casually. It is another thing to take time to prayerfully, meditate on it and understand the message. Without prayerfully, making efforts to understand by the help of God, the Bible will be as powerless as other books or literature. *"Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works"*.
*Question*
How often do you sincerely, pray this prayer?
*4. Strength Over Depression*
The Word of God is an effective dose for depression, disappointments, defeats and distress. The Word of God with prayers gives strength and fortitude to bear heavy burdens which could seriously weigh a graceless person down. The comfort of the Holy Spirit, through the Word of God, can penetrate into the innermost soul and give succour and joy when it is not humanly possible. *"My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word"*.
*Question*
Do you have the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit?
*5. Sanctification Through Devotion*
How shall a man cleanse his ways? By taking heed according to God's Word. The Word of God purifies the souls, renews scriptural convictions and keeps someone in righteousness. When a preacher stops eating the Word, his personal convictions on the truth will fade with time. How much more of just a church member. *"Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously"*.
*Question*
How has the Scriptures effectively helped you to live a holy life always?
*6. Separation Through Decision*
A heart that is void of definite decisions for God and righteousness will find it difficult to make godly choices in this polluted and corrupted world. Godly decisions must be guided by the Word of God and not philosophy of men or our own ideas.*"I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me"*.
*Question*
What are the non-negotiable decisions you have made in line with the Word of God?
*7. Shame Destroyed*
You cannot be stuck in the Word of God and be put to shame. He promised, *"My people shall not be ashamed"*. *I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame"*.
*Question*
Where in the Scriptures is the promise, *"My people shall not be ashamed"?*
*8. Saintly Determination*
*"I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart"*. How about you?
*Prayer Points*
1.Give praises to God for the gift of the Word of God .
2.Ask that the Word of God will work mightily in your life bringing forth fruits .
3.Pray that your faith in the Word of God will continue to grow stronger and deeper .
4.Ask that the Word of God we read and hear will mix with faith in the heart of all .

2. Morning Prayer for today.
MP.i. Morning Prayer
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly. ⏤ John 10:10
The greatest thing anyone can do for God or man is pray. ⏤ S.D. Gordon
O Jesus, our Savior, You alone can give us life. You came into this world that we might have life, abundant life. Fill us with life as we begin this new day. We will need it at every step. We will have . . .
Burdens to carry,
Battles to fight,
Trials to endure,
Duties to perform.
Give us life, abundant life, to prepare us for all these experiences, that we do not fail today.
We must represent You in the world. You have said that as the Father sent You into the world, so You have sent us. We can do nothing except as we receive life and wisdom from You. We wait at Your feet this morning, praying that You put rich grace into our souls. May we be like trees planted by the rivers of water, bearing fruit in their season. May the fruits of righteousness be evident in our lives. May the fruits of the Spirit abound in us. May we be to the world like rich trees, planted and nourished by You, from whose branches there shall fall much fruit to feed the hunger of others.
We cannot know what the day will bring. We do not ask to know. We would rather walk in the dark with You than go alone, choosing our own way. We would rather walk with You by faith than go alone by sight. So, we put ourselves into Your hand for guidance and safekeeping. You will make no mistake in leading us. No path into which You take us can be the wrong path. Lead us, O Jesus, for You know the way through this bewildering world. You have walked these paths Yourself, O Jesus, and You found the way home. Lead us home, too, dear Master, to be with You forever. We ask in Your name. Amen.

Amen.

Good morning, brethren.
1. Morning devotion for today.

*STRENGTH AND EMPOWERMENT BY THE WORD*
*TEXT:* PSALM 119:25-32.
25 My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.
26 I have declared my ways, and thou heardest me: teach me thy statutes.
27 Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works.
28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.
29 Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.
30 I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.
31 I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O Lord, put me not to shame.
32 I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.
*Timeless Truth:*_"I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me"_( Psalm 119:30).
Aw
1.Give praises to God for the gift of the Word of God 🙏.
2.Ask that the Word of God will work mightily in your life bringing forth fruits 🙏.
3.Pray that your faith in the Word of God will continue to grow stronger and deeper 🙏.
4.Ask that the Word of God we read and hear will mix with faith in the heart of all 🙏.

🔑📖```KEY VERSE:``` _*"Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously. I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me" (PSALM 119:29, 30).*_
*At a county fair, a distinctively dressed Quaker offered a horse for sale. A non-Quaker farmer asked its price, and since Quakers had a reputation for fair dealing, he bought the horse without hesitation. The farmer got the horse home, only to discover it was lazy and ill-tempered, so he took it back to the fair the next day. There he confronted the Quaker. "Thou hast no complaint against me," said the Quaker. "Had thou asked me about the horse, I would have told thee truthfully the problems, but thou didst not ask." "That's okay," replied the farmer, "I don't want you to take the horse back. I want you to try to sell him to someone else."*
*Heaven-bound believers are not allowed to be like the Quaker in the above story. Believers must have a reputation for telling the truth. Our Bible text portrays the believer as someone who abhors lying and chooses the way of truth deliberately. There is no middle ground or neutrality between truth and falsehood. If you are not in the way of truth, then definitely you are in the way of error. Men do not just drop into the right way by chance; they must choose it and continue therein or else wander away from it. Also highlighted in the text is the fact that there is a practical way of holiness which we must diligently follow, in spite of the odds we might face.*
*As believers in Christ, we must live up to divine expectation. Interestingly, the Spirit of God in us will not lead us in the way of error and falsehood. So, we must be careful not to learn sinful habits of joking with lies and deceit. The devil does not consider lies as jokes because he is a liar and the author of it.*
*Choosing the way of truth begins with a salvation experience and continues with abiding in Christ, His word and fellowship with fellow believers. Each of us must have the purpose of mind like Daniel to follow the way of truth, speak the truth and stand for the truth always.*

*It is heartwarming to know that God is the source of our supply. His promises never fail. His resources are inexhaustible. The Lord supplied the need of His people with the necessities of life that none of the Israelites lacked anything in the wilderness. He provided water from the rock and gave them manna from heaven. God is the same then, now and forever.*
*God miraculously fed the widow of Zarephath and her son in the days of Elijah. The barrel of flour did not run out, neither did the cruse of oil fail. She had constant supply all through the period of famine. For three years running, there was neither rain nor cloud. It was hunger, anguish and death, but this widow woman, her son and Prophet Elijah never experienced hunger (1 Kings 17:8-16). They lived joyfully and had abundance.*
*So shall it be with you. Economic recession, cash crunch, drought, negative situation and circumstances cannot cancel the word of God. Job 5:20 says, "In famine he shall redeem thee from death..." Your bread shall be given you, and your water shall be sure.*

Everyone likes to receive a gift. Even the richest person on earth will be happy to receive a present. Gifts are really appreciated particularly when it meets the need of the one who receives it; that is, if it is what the person has been desiring to have.
It is common to give presents to your friends and siblings, but the last person you imagine you can ever give something to, is God. We often feel God is too rich. He owns everything in heaven and on earth - what can we give to Him? God desires a present from you: your heart and your whole body.
Give Him your heart: your thoughts and motives; your mouth: your words and songs; your hands: what you touch and take; your eyes: what you watch and delight to see; your legs: where you go to and how you play; your ears: the music you enjoy and the words you hear.
