Your spouse doesn't greet you warmly. You think: "They're angry with me." Your spouse checks their phone. You think: "They're hiding something." Your spouse doesn't respond immediately to your message. You think: "They don't care about me." But sometimes our conclusions are completely wrong. The danger of assumptions is that we can react to something that never happened. Instead of building a case in your mind, ask a question. "Is everything okay?" "Did I do something that upset you?" "You seem quiet today. How are you feeling?"
