YOUR TONE ALSO SPEAKS
Good Morning!
Sometimes it is not what we say that creates the wound.
It is how we say it.
The words may be correct, but the tone says:
"You are foolish."
"I don't respect you."
"You are a problem."
In marriage, tone can turn an ordinary conversation into a battlefield.
Imagine a wife asking her husband, "Are you coming home early today?"
The question itself is harmless.
But if it comes with a harsh tone, he may hear criticism instead of curiosity.
Likewise, a husband may ask his wife a simple question, but his tone may communicate suspicion.
Learning to communicate well means learning to listen not only to our words but also to our tone, facial expression and attitude.
God's Word
"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." β Proverbs 15:1
Today's Love Action
Before speaking about something sensitive today, pause and ask yourself:
"Is my tone communicating the love I claim to have?"
Let's Talk
How does tone affect the way your spouse receives your message?
Prayer
Lord, help us control not only our words but also our tone. Let our communication reflect gentleness, respect and love. Amen.
From The Counselor's Chair
The same sentence can communicate love or contempt depending on how it is delivered.
Marriage Nugget
"Your spouse hears your tone before they process your words."
Remember
In marriage, it is not about winning the argument; it is about winning each other's hearts.DAY 6- Morning Theme: LOVE THAT GROWS: Growing Together in Love, Wisdom and Grace Sub-Theme: GROWING IN COMMUNICATION Learning to Speak in Ways That Build, Not Break π Reflection YOUR TONE ALSO SPEAKS Good Morning! UNDERSTANDING REQUIRES PATIENCE
Good Morning!
People don't change overnight.
Neither do marriages.
Your spouse may have habits formed over many years.
They may have grown up in a home where emotions were not openly discussed.
They may have learned to handle problems differently from you.
Perhaps you grew up in a home where everyone talked things through immediately.
Your spouse may have grown up where people became quiet until emotions settled.
Now you are married.
One wants to talk.
The other wants space.
One sees silence as rejection.
The other sees silence as a way of preventing an argument.
Understanding requires patience.
Instead of saying:
"Why can't you be like me?"
learn to ask:
"Help me understand how you see this."
Marriage is not about turning your spouse into a copy of yourself.
It is about learning how two different people can become one without losing the value of their individuality.
God's Word
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." β Ephesians 4:2
Today's Love Action
When your spouse responds differently from you today, resist the urge to criticize.
Instead say:
"Help me understand."
Let's Talk
What difference between us have I learned to appreciate rather than criticize?
Prayer
Lord, give us patience with each other's differences. Help us understand our backgrounds, personalities and ways of responding to life. Teach us to grow together without trying to destroy the uniqueness You placed in each of us. Amen.
From The Counselor's Chair
Difference does not automatically mean incompatibility.
Sometimes the very differences that challenge us can teach us patience, flexibility and maturity.
Marriage Nugget
"Marriage is not about finding someone exactly like you; it is about learning to love someone who is wonderfully different from you."

DON'T ASSUMEβASK
Good Morning!
Assumptions can create unnecessary wars in marriage.
Your spouse doesn't greet you warmly.
You think:
"They're angry with me."
Your spouse checks their phone.
You think:
"They're hiding something."
Your spouse doesn't respond immediately to your message.
You think:
"They don't care about me."
But sometimes our conclusions are completely wrong.
The danger of assumptions is that we can react to something that never happened.
Instead of building a case in your mind, ask a question.
"Is everything okay?"
"Did I do something that upset you?"
"You seem quiet today. How are you feeling?"
One honest question can prevent an entire evening of unnecessary tension.
God's Word
"The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered." β Proverbs 17:27
Today's Love Action
Before making a negative assumption about your spouse today, ask first.
Let's Talk
What assumptions have you sometimes made about your spouse that later proved to be untrue?
Prayer
Lord, deliver us from the habit of assuming the worst. Give us wisdom to ask questions, seek truth and communicate openly. Amen.

LISTEN TO THE HEART BEHIND THE WORDS
Good Morning!
Sometimes your spouse says one thing, but there is another feeling underneath it.
"You don't spend time with me."
Perhaps what they are really saying is:
"I miss you."
"You never help around here."
Perhaps underneath it is:
"I feel overwhelmed and I need you beside me."
"You don't care about me anymore."
Perhaps underneath it is:
"I need reassurance that I still matter to you."
This does not mean we should excuse hurtful communication.
But understanding asks us to look beyond the words and listen for the emotion underneath them.
The next time your spouse speaks from frustration, don't immediately prepare your defence.
Ask:
"What are you really trying to tell me?"
That question can change a conversation.
God's Word
"The purposes of a person's heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out." β Proverbs 20:5

LEARN YOUR SPOUSE'S LOVE LANGUAGE
Good Morning!
Have you ever sincerely tried to make your spouse happy, only to discover that they didn't seem to notice?
Perhaps you bought a gift, but what they really wanted was your time.
Perhaps you worked hard to provide for the family, but your spouse was longing to hear, "I appreciate you."
Perhaps you said, "I love you," but what they needed was a warm embrace.
Sometimes the problem isn't that love is absent.
Love is present, but it is being communicated in a language the other person doesn't easily recognize.
In a typical Ghanaian home, a husband may believe that working hard and paying the bills is his strongest expression of love. His wife may deeply appreciate that sacrifice but still long for meaningful conversation and affection.
Neither is necessarily wrong.
They may simply be speaking different love languages.
Take time to discover how your spouse best receives love.
God's Word
"Do to others as you would have them do to you." β Luke 6:31
Today's Love Action
Ask your spouse:
"What is one thing I do that makes you feel especially loved?"
Don't defend or explain. Just listen.

Prayer

UNDERSTANDING BEFORE JUDGING
Good Morning!
One of the greatest gifts you can give your spouse is the gift of being understood.
Sometimes we are quick to judge because we see the behaviour but don't know the story behind it.
Your husband may come home unusually quiet.
Your wife may seem distant.
One of you may become impatient over something that normally wouldn't matter.
The easy response is:
"What's wrong with you?"
But love asks a better question:
"What is happening with you?"
There is a difference.
Perhaps your spouse had a difficult day at work.
Perhaps something happened that they haven't found the courage to discuss.
Perhaps they are simply tired.
Understanding doesn't mean agreeing with everything your spouse does.
It means taking time to understand the person before passing judgment on the behaviour.
Imagine a husband returning home from work in Accra after battling traffic for hours, frustrated and exhausted. His wife notices his silence and immediately assumes, "He's angry with me."
But instead of reacting, she asks:
"Honey, you've been quiet. Is everything okay?"
That simple question may open a door that criticism would have closed.
God's Word
"Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry."
β James 1:19
Today's Love Action
Before making an assumption about your spouse today, ask one gentle question and listen carefully to the answer.
Let's Talk
Do I usually try to understand my spouse before I react to their behaviour?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, teach us to listen with patience and understand with compassion. Help us not to judge quickly or assume the worst about one another. Give us hearts that are willing to listen before speaking and understand before reacting. In Jesus' name, Amen.
From The Counselor's Chair
Many marital conflicts grow because couples respond to assumptions instead of information.
Before you conclude, ask.
Before you react, listen.
Before you judge, understand.
Marriage Nugget
"Understanding often begins with one simple decision: listen before you judge."

Reflection
Tonight is different.
It is not simply the end of another day.
It is the end of a month.
Before you rush into tomorrow, pause.
Think about where you were when August began.
What have you learned?
Where have you grown?
What still needs attention?
And perhaps most importantly:
Have you allowed Christ to become more central in your marriage?
The journey continues tomorrow.
A new month will bring a new beginning.

Marriage Nugget
"A lasting marriage is built one faithful day at a time."
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for every day of August.
Thank You for the moments of joy and the moments that challenged us.
Thank You for teaching us about unity, understanding, love, forgiveness, friendship, peace and service.
Where we have grown, help us continue growing.
Where we have failed, give us grace to begin again.
Where there are wounds, bring healing.
Where there is distance, restore connection.
And where our marriage is already strong, make it a blessing to others.
As we close this month, we place our marriage and our home afresh into Your hands.
May our love honour You.
May our home reflect You.
And may our marriage bless generations to come.

A new month will bring a new beginning. π God's Word "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning." β Lamentations 3:22β23 π Heart Check What is one thing I will intentionally carry from August into the new month of my marriage journey? π Marriage Nugget "A lasting marriage is built one faithful day at a time." π Prayer Lord Jesus, thank You for every day of August. In the precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen. Remember In marriage, it is not about winning the argument; it is about winning each other's hearts.0 Comments 0 Shares 23 Views - DAY 31- Morning

Morning Reflection
Keep Walking Together
Good morning,
We have come to the end of August.
Thirty-one days.
Thirty-one opportunities to pause, reflect, pray, forgive, serve, listen and love.
Perhaps some days were easy.
Perhaps some touched places in your marriage that needed healing.
Perhaps some lessons made you laugh.
Perhaps others challenged you deeply.
But remember:
Marriage is a journey, not a one-month project.
Tomorrow begins another month.
There will be new responsibilities.
New challenges.
New joys.
New opportunities to grow.
So don't put away what you have learned.
Carry it forward.
Keep choosing each other.
Keep praying together.
Keep talking.
Keep serving.
Keep forgiving.
Keep Christ at the centre.
And when you stumble, don't assume the journey is over.
Get up.
Take each other's hands.
And keep walking.
God's Word
"Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus." β Hebrews 12:1β2
Today's Love Action
Hold your spouse's hand and thank God together for bringing you through August.
Then each of you say one thing you want to do better in your marriage next month.

What is the most important lesson God has taught us through this month's journey?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for carrying us through this month. Thank You for every lesson, every blessing and every opportunity to grow. Help us carry these lessons into the new month. Continue to strengthen our marriage and keep Christ at the centre of our home. In Jesus' name, Amen.

as August Closes.
Dear friend,
If you have journeyed with us through August, I want you to know something:
Your marriage is worth the effort.
Perhaps your marriage is thriving.
Perhaps you are rebuilding.
Perhaps you are carrying a private burden that nobody else knows.
Whatever your situation, don't give up on the beautiful possibility of growth.
You don't have to become perfect couples.
You simply need two hearts willing to keep learning, keep forgiving, keep praying and keep choosing love.
There will be another difficult conversation.
There will be another misunderstanding.
There will be another season when one of you becomes tired.
But there will also be another opportunity to say:
"Let's try again."
That may be one of the most powerful sentences in marriage.
As we close August, my prayer is that your home will become more than a place where people live together.
May it become a place where Christ is honoured, love is practised, forgiveness is extended, children are nurtured and others find hope.
Keep walking together.
And keep Christ at the centre.

What Will Your Marriage Leave Behind?
Good morning,
One day, our children will grow up.
Our careers will end.
Our possessions will pass to someone else.
Our houses may belong to another generation.
But what will remain in the hearts of those who knew us?
Perhaps your greatest legacy will not be money.
It may be the son who learned how to respect women because he watched his father honour his mother.
It may be the daughter who learned that marriage can be a place of safety because she watched her parents forgive each other.
It may be the young couple who found hope because you shared your testimony with them.

LOVE THAT SERVES
Good morning,
We have spent this month learning to walk as one.
Now, as we approach the final days of August, we take another step:
What does our love do for others?
A Christ-centred marriage should not only bless the husband and wife.
It should become a blessing to children, family, church, neighbours and the wider community.
Jesus said:
"It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Marriage gives us countless opportunities to serve.
Perhaps you can prepare a meal for someone who is struggling.
Visit an elderly relative.
Encourage another couple.
Pray for a young marriage.
Help someone without expecting recognition.
When husband and wife serve together, marriage becomes more than companionship.
It becomes ministry.

When you stand together against the problem, rather than against each other, even difficult situations can become opportunities for growth.

Theme: BUILDING A SAFE HOME: Creating a Marriage Where Love, Respect and Peace Can Grow.
Morning Reflection
Fight the Problem, Not Each Other
Good morning,
Every marriage has disagreements.
The question is not:
"Will we ever disagree?"
The better question is:
"How will we disagree?"
When the issue becomes:
"You are selfish."
"You never listen."
"Your family is the problem."
the discussion has moved from solving a problem to attacking a person.
Instead, learn to say:
"We have a problem. Let's face it together."
The goal is not to defeat your spouse.
The goal is to defeat the problem.
God's Word
"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." β Proverbs 15:1
Today's Love Action
If a disagreement arises today, deliberately use "we" instead of "you."
Let's Talk
What words or habits tend to make disagreements worse in marriage?
Prayer
Lord, help us remember that we are partners, even when we face problems. Give us wisdom and gentleness in conflict. Amen.
From My Counselor's Chair
When couples stop seeing each other as enemies, many conflicts become easier to solve.
