TOPIC: THE JOURNEY OF BECOMING_5
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: EPHESIANS 3.20 (NIV)
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
Devotional message:

Jesus knew that in this journey of becoming, as we continually look to Him, learn from Him, and walk with Him, we become like Him. Therefore, He did not leave us to accomplish this journey by our own strength. One of the greatest promises He gave us was the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit brings power from within—power that does not only enable us to do things for God, but also enables God to transform us from within. The work of the Holy Spirit is therefore not limited to signs, wonders, preaching, healing, deliverance, or other expressions of spiritual power. He also works deeply within us, shaping our character, renewing our minds, producing godly fruit, and conforming us to the image of Christ.

This is where we must understand the difference between doing and becoming. We can desire power to do great things, yet God is equally concerned with the person we are becoming. The Holy Spirit empowers us not merely to demonstrate God's power outwardly, but to experience His transforming power inwardly.

God's predetermined purpose for us is that we would be conformed to the image of His Son, so that Christ would be preeminent among us. Therefore, the Holy Spirit works in us to produce the character of Christ—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Child of God, do not seek the power of the Holy Spirit only for what you can do; yield to His power for who He wants you to become. It is possible to desire the power that works through you while resisting the transformation God wants to accomplish in you. But the journey of becoming requires us to surrender to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to deal with our character, motives, desires, attitudes, and conduct.

The same Spirit who empowers us to minister to others also works within us to make us more like Jesus. The power from within is not only power for doing; it is power for becoming.

As we behold Christ, walk with Him, submit to His Word, and yield to the Holy Spirit, we are progressively transformed into His likeness. This is the journey of becoming.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, Deal with everything in me that does not reflect Christ. Produce Your fruit in my life and conform me to the image of God's Son. In Jesus' name, Amen.
