THE WORD FOR TODAY

"FOUR KINDS OF GIVERS (2)"
'…“the bin…shall not be used up...”’ 1 Kings 17:14 NKJV
BIN PEOPLE. In the middle of a devastating famine, God sent the prophet Elijah to Zarephath, saying he’d meet a widow there who would feed him. Why did God not send Elijah to a wealthy family? Because they didn’t need a miracle, she did! When Elijah asked this woman for something to eat she told him that she’d ‘…only a handful of flour in a bin…’ (1 Kings 17:12 NKJV). She had just enough for one more meal, then she and her son would die. Perhaps you’re thinking, ‘Typical preacher! They’ll take the last bite out of your mouth and the last penny out of your pocket.’ No, this was the best day of her life! She was about to step into miracle territory. But first she had to overcome the fear of giving. ‘Elijah said to her, “Do not fear…make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me…” For thus says the Lord God of Israel: “The bin of flour shall not be used up…until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth’’’ (1 Kings 17:13-14 NKJV). How does this story turn out? ‘So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and…The bin of flour was not used up…’ (1 Kings 17:15-16 NKJV). Day after day, without fail, she reached into the bin and found more flour. She discovered that when you obey God’s Word, He will meet your every need. Are you a bin person? Are you afraid of letting go of what you have in case you don’t have enough? Don’t be. You will never out-give God! Whatever you give to Him, He has promised to give back ‘…good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over…’ (Luke 6:38 NKJV).

*DELIVERED FROM BONDAGE TO GROWING INTO SPIRITUAL MATURITY*
*TEXT:* GALATIANS 4:19–26
19. My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
20. I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.
21. Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
22. For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
23. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
24. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
25. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
26. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
*Timeless Truth:*
_But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord._( 2 Corinthians 3:18)
*INTRODUCTION*
In 1952, Florence Chadwick, a renowned long-distance swimmer, attempted to swim from the island of Catalina to the coast of California. She had already accomplished difficult long-distance swims, but on this particular attempt, thick fog surrounded her. After swimming for many hours, she became discouraged and eventually, stopped. When she reached the shore, she discovered that she had stopped only about a mile from her destination. Later, she said that if she had been able to see the shore, she probably would have continued.
Her experience illustrates an important spiritual truth: what we see influences how we persevere. When believers lose sight of God's purpose, they can become discouraged and return to spiritual patterns from which Christ has already delivered them. Paul the apostle was deeply concerned about the Galatian Christians. They had begun well in Christ, but false teachers were persuading them to return to reliance on the law. Apostle Paul therefore, expressed the heart of a spiritual parent: Apostle
Paul's concern was not merely that the Galatians should know more religious rules. His desire was that Christ Himself would be formed in their character and conduct.
The passage therefore, challenges us to examine our spiritual growth, our response to God's grace and the freedom we have received through Christ. May Christ be formed in our thoughts, our speech, our families, our workplaces, our ministries, our relationships and our private lives. And as He is formed in us, may others see Christ through us.
*1. The Pains of Spiritual Formation*
a. Apostle Paul describes his concern for the Galatians in the language of childbirth. He was willing to labour again because their spiritual development was incomplete. His correction came from love. True spiritual leadership does not merely seek to increase numbers; it seeks to produce mature disciples. Christian leaders, parents, teachers and mature believers should care deeply about the spiritual growth of those God has entrusted to them.
b. Paul identifies his ultimate goal: *_“Until Christ is formed in you.”_*
Christian maturity is more than knowing biblical facts. It involves becoming increasingly like Jesus.We should regularly ask whether our attitudes, words, relationships and decisions increasingly resemble Christ.
Paul the apostle was perplexed because the Galatians had begun to drift from the gospel. This explains the pains of spiritual Immaturity.
Remaining spiritually immature makes believers vulnerable to false teaching, confusion and compromise.
*Questions*
(i). Is Christ increasingly visible in my character, attitudes and relationships?
(ii) Am I growing spiritually or have I remained at the same level of Christian maturity for years?
*2. The Perils of Spiritual Bondage*
Apostle Paul uses the story of Abraham's two sons to illustrate the difference between bondage under the law and freedom through God's promise. The Galatians were in danger of returning to a system of trying to establish righteousness through human performance.
Religious activity cannot replace genuine faith in Christ. We must never make human performance the basis of our acceptance before God.
b. Ishmael was born through Abraham's human arrangement with Sarah, while Isaac was born according to God's promise. There is a difference between doing something for God through human strength and allowing God to accomplish His purpose through faith and dependence upon Him. The Galatians were being tempted to add law-keeping to the gospel as a requirement for righteousness. Good works are important as the fruit of salvation, but they are not the foundation of salvation. We obey God because we have been saved, not in order to make ourselves worthy of salvation.
*Questions*
(i). Am I trusting Christ's finished work, or am I trying to earn God's acceptance through my religious performance?
(ii). Are there religious traditions or human expectations that have become more important to me than the grace of God?
*3. The Promise of Spiritual Freedom*
a.Apostle Paul contrasts earthly Jerusalem, associated with bondage, with the Jerusalem above, which represents freedom.
Paul the apostle presents two contrasting spiritual realities: bondage and freedom. The gospel does not merely forgive us; it brings us into a new relationship with God through Christ.
b. Those who belong to Christ are children of promise. Our identity should be based on our relationship with Christ rather than our past, failures, social position, or human achievements.
Christian freedom does not mean freedom to live however, we please. It means freedom to serve God and pursue righteousness.
We should use our freedom to love God, serve others, resist sin, and live according to the Spirit.
*Questions*
(i) Am I living like someone who has been liberated by Christ or am I still allowing guilt, fear and sin to control me?
(ii). How am I using my Christian freedom to serve God and bless others?

1. Lord Jesus, cause Your character to be formed in me. Help me to grow into spiritual maturity and become increasingly like You.
2. Father, deliver me from every form of spiritual bondage, self-righteousness, fear and dependence on human works. Help me to rest completely in Christ's finished work.
3. Lord, help me to understand my identity as Your child and to live confidently in the freedom and grace You have given me through Christ.
4. Holy Spirit, produce Your fruit in my life so that my conduct, words, relationships and decisions will reflect Christ to everyone around me.

*Newscasters on the radio and television open their presentation by declaring what they call the main points of the news. When they are through and are about to leave the studio, the broadcaster refers us to a recap of the highlights. It is the traditional style that helps listeners and viewers retain the main gist of the news. However, it is not often easy for the newsroom staff to sift through the stories to select items that qualify for the most prominent mention.*
*Today's writers would have much more difficulty telling the world the main points of the epistle to the Galatians, because every inspired line yearns for attention. But one thing cannot be overlooked: Apostle Paul's determination not to rest until "Christ be formed" in the Galatians. The Apostle had taught them that, having embraced salvation through faith in Christ, they were no longer to be controlled by the doctrines of Judaism that gave no hope for Gentiles like the Galatians. So, Paul was troubled to learn that his converts were falling for false teachings that did not proclaim Christ's finished work as the solution to the problem of sin. He said he would not give up on them; he would go through again with his parental care and tenderness for them till they were completely weaned.*
*That is the mind of Christ that all evangelists should cultivate. The Lord crisscrossed land and sea, teaching the people the new way of freedom from the bondage of sin. He nursed all, beginning with His disciples, with divine love which He wants His followers to show to the unbelieving world. They may be slow to understand our message; they may even seem to be relapsing into old habits. We may find them with toxic literature, spurring them to ask strange questions. The Lord expects us to exercise patience and prayerfulness while trusting God to touch them.*
*We cannot win the unsaved completely for Christ by strong-arm tactics. We cannot restore those who have backslidden by being impatient with them. Since it is a spiritual warfare, we must fortify ourselves with the strength of the Lord, who has sent us into the battlefield. We need to remember: no one goes to war at their own expense.*

Building a durable structure takes time, effort and patience. Builders carefully plan each step, making sure everything is strong and secure. Jesus is building His church, and He invites us to be part of that great work.
He has given us His tools; His word, His love, and His Holy Spirit to help others find Him and become part of His family. Every time you pray for someone, every time you encourage them to know Jesus, you are helping to build God's kingdom.
Building God's kingdom is not just about going to church or listening to a sermon; it is about living out God's love every day and sharing that love with others. When we share the gospel, show kindness, and help others, we are part of something much bigger than ourselves.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, we ask You to take away our sin. O God, the Father of all mercies, who did not spare Your only begotten Son but delivered Him up for us all, for His sake give us all things needful for our comfort, strength, and salvation. May we always be submissive and obedient to Your holy will. May we live for You, giving in consecrated service all that You so richly give to us. Make us truly like You.
We ask You to give us grace for this day’s life. Set a watch before the door of our lips, that we may speak only words that honor You. Keep our hearts in Your holy keeping, for we cannot keep them for You—may we think only reverent, loving, true, pure, and worthy thoughts. Prepare us for Your worship, both in our own home and in Your sanctuary. May we truly be in the Spirit on this Lord’s day.
Bless our home life today. May it be holy and happy. May Your love sweeten ours. May we live together as a family with patience, affection, and mutual thoughtfulness and kindness. Bless us in all our relationships with others.

Building a durable structure takes time, effort and patience. Builders carefully plan each step, making sure everything is strong and secure. Jesus is building His church, and He invites us to be part of that great work.
He has given us His tools; His word, His love, and His Holy Spirit to help others find Him and become part of His family. Every time you pray for someone, every time you encourage them to know Jesus, you are helping to build God's kingdom.
Building God's kingdom is not just about going to church or listening to a sermon; it is about living out God's love every day and sharing that love with others. When we share the gospel, show kindness, and help others, we are part of something much bigger than ourselves.

May we always be submissive and obedient to Your holy will. May we live for You, giving in consecrated service all that You so richly give to us. Make us truly like You.
We ask You to give us grace for this day’s life. Set a watch before the door of our lips, that we may speak only words that honor You. "FOUR KINDS OF GIVERS (2)"
'…“the bin…shall not be used up...”’ 1 Kings 17:14 NKJV
BIN PEOPLE. In the middle of a devastating famine, God sent the prophet Elijah to Zarephath, saying he’d meet a widow there who would feed him. Why did God not send Elijah to a wealthy family? Because they didn’t need a miracle, she did! When Elijah asked this woman for something to eat she told him that she’d ‘…only a handful of flour in a bin…’ (1 Kings 17:12 NKJV). She had just enough for one more meal, then she and her son would die. Perhaps you’re thinking, ‘Typical preacher! They’ll take the last bite out of your mouth and the last penny out of your pocket.’ No, this was the best day of her life! She was about to step into miracle territory. But first she had to overcome the fear of giving. ‘Elijah said to her, “Do not fear…make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me…” For thus says the Lord God of Israel: “The bin of flour shall not be used up…until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth’’’ (1 Kings 17:13-14 NKJV). How does this story turn out? ‘So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and…The bin of flour was not used up…’ (1 Kings 17:15-16 NKJV). Day after day, without fail, she reached into the bin and found more flour. She discovered that when you obey God’s Word, He will meet your every need. Are you a bin person? Are you afraid of letting go of what you have in case you don’t have enough? Don’t be. You will never out-give God! Whatever you give to Him, He has promised to give back ‘…good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over…’ (Luke 6:38 NKJV).

*DELIVERED FROM BONDAGE TO GROWING INTO SPIRITUAL MATURITY*
*TEXT:* GALATIANS 4:19–26
19. My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
20. I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.
21. Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
22. For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
23. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
24. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
25. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
26. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
*Timeless Truth:*
_But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord._( 2 Corinthians 3:18)
*INTRODUCTION*
In 1952, Florence Chadwick, a renowned long-distance swimmer, attempted to swim from the island of Catalina to the coast of California. She had already accomplished difficult long-distance swims, but on this particular attempt, thick fog surrounded her. After swimming for many hours, she became discouraged and eventually, stopped. When she reached the shore, she discovered that she had stopped only about a mile from her destination. Later, she said that if she had been able to see the shore, she probably would have continued.
Her experience illustrates an important spiritual truth: what we see influences how we persevere. When believers lose sight of God's purpose, they can become discouraged and return to spiritual patterns from which Christ has already delivered them. Paul the apostle was deeply concerned about the Galatian Christians. They had begun well in Christ, but false teachers were persuading them to return to reliance on the law. Apostle Paul therefore, expressed the heart of a spiritual parent: Apostle
Paul's concern was not merely that the Galatians should know more religious rules. His desire was that Christ Himself would be formed in their character and conduct.
The passage therefore, challenges us to examine our spiritual growth, our response to God's grace and the freedom we have received through Christ. May Christ be formed in our thoughts, our speech, our families, our workplaces, our ministries, our relationships and our private lives. And as He is formed in us, may others see Christ through us.
*1. The Pains of Spiritual Formation*
a. Apostle Paul describes his concern for the Galatians in the language of childbirth. He was willing to labour again because their spiritual development was incomplete. His correction came from love. True spiritual leadership does not merely seek to increase numbers; it seeks to produce mature disciples. Christian leaders, parents, teachers and mature believers should care deeply about the spiritual growth of those God has entrusted to them.
b. Paul identifies his ultimate goal: *_“Until Christ is formed in you.”_*
Christian maturity is more than knowing biblical facts. It involves becoming increasingly like Jesus.We should regularly ask whether our attitudes, words, relationships and decisions increasingly resemble Christ.
Paul the apostle was perplexed because the Galatians had begun to drift from the gospel. This explains the pains of spiritual Immaturity.
Remaining spiritually immature makes believers vulnerable to false teaching, confusion and compromise.
*Questions*
(i). Is Christ increasingly visible in my character, attitudes and relationships?
(ii) Am I growing spiritually or have I remained at the same level of Christian maturity for years?
*2. The Perils of Spiritual Bondage*
Apostle Paul uses the story of Abraham's two sons to illustrate the difference between bondage under the law and freedom through God's promise. The Galatians were in danger of returning to a system of trying to establish righteousness through human performance.
Religious activity cannot replace genuine faith in Christ. We must never make human performance the basis of our acceptance before God.
b. Ishmael was born through Abraham's human arrangement with Sarah, while Isaac was born according to God's promise. There is a difference between doing something for God through human strength and allowing God to accomplish His purpose through faith and dependence upon Him. The Galatians were being tempted to add law-keeping to the gospel as a requirement for righteousness. Good works are important as the fruit of salvation, but they are not the foundation of salvation. We obey God because we have been saved, not in order to make ourselves worthy of salvation.
*Questions*
(i). Am I trusting Christ's finished work, or am I trying to earn God's acceptance through my religious performance?
(ii). Are there religious traditions or human expectations that have become more important to me than the grace of God?
*3. The Promise of Spiritual Freedom*
a.Apostle Paul contrasts earthly Jerusalem, associated with bondage, with the Jerusalem above, which represents freedom.
Paul the apostle presents two contrasting spiritual realities: bondage and freedom. The gospel does not merely forgive us; it brings us into a new relationship with God through Christ.
b. Those who belong to Christ are children of promise. Our identity should be based on our relationship with Christ rather than our past, failures, social position, or human achievements.
Christian freedom does not mean freedom to live however, we please. It means freedom to serve God and pursue righteousness.
We should use our freedom to love God, serve others, resist sin, and live according to the Spirit.
*Questions*
(i) Am I living like someone who has been liberated by Christ or am I still allowing guilt, fear and sin to control me?
(ii). How am I using my Christian freedom to serve God and bless others?
*Prayer Points*
1. Lord Jesus, cause Your character to be formed in me. Help me to grow into spiritual maturity and become increasingly like You.🙏
2. Father, deliver me from every form of spiritual bondage, self-righteousness, fear and dependence on human works. Help me to rest completely in Christ's finished work.🙏
3. Lord, help me to understand my identity as Your child and to live confidently in the freedom and grace You have given me through Christ.🙏
4. Holy Spirit, produce Your fruit in my life so that my conduct, words, relationships and decisions will reflect Christ to everyone around me.🙏

However, it is not often easy for the newsroom staff to sift through the stories to select items that qualify for the most prominent mention.*
*Today's writers would have much more difficulty telling the world the main points of the epistle to the Galatians, because every inspired line yearns for attention. But one thing cannot be overlooked: Apostle Paul's determination not to rest until "Christ be formed" in the Galatians. The Apostle had taught them that, having embraced salvation through faith in Christ, they were no longer to be controlled by the doctrines of Judaism that gave no hope for Gentiles like the Galatians.
