Good morning, brethren.
1. Morning devotion for today.
MD.i. MORNING TEA
THE WORD FOR TODAY. TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2O26.
"FOUR KINDS OF GIVERS (4)"
'...Joseph opened the storehouses Barnabas Adejo and sold grain to the Egyptians...’ Genesis 41:56 NIV
BARN PEOPLE. God used Joseph to feed the nations during a time of worldwide famine. When Pharaoh’s advisers couldn’t interpret his dream, Joseph did. He actually gave Pharaoh a plan that would not only feed Egypt during seven years of famine, but also feed the world and cause Pharaoh to come out of this crisis a richer man. When you serve God, He can give you information about the future. He can give you not only the wisdom to survive, but thrive when you’re in a recession. But you can’t build such a relationship with God overnight! Joseph’s journey to the throne of Egypt led through years of delay, detours and discouragement. He experienced betrayal at the hands of his family, temptation and slander at the hands of his employer’s wife, false imprisonment, years of waiting and wondering when God would fulfil His promise to make him a leader. But he never doubted God. And you must not either! If God can take an ex-con like Joseph and make him the prime minister of Egypt, no obstacle and no enemy can keep Him from fulfilling His promise to you.
So, if you’re a bag person, ‘consider your ways’ and start putting God first in your finances. If you’re a bin person, ‘be not afraid,’ give, and God will give back to you. If you’re a basket person, place what you’ve got into God’s hands and watch Him multiply it. If you’re a barn person with a heart that longs to meet the needs of a hurting world, nothing your enemies do will stop you.

*RUMBLE IN THE ROYAL FAMILY*
*TEXT:* 1KINGS 1:1-13.
Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.
2 Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.
3 So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
4 And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.
5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.
6 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.
7 And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.
8 But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.
9 And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants:
10 But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.
11 Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?
12 Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
13 Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign?
*Timeless Truth:*_"It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness."_ (Proverbs 16:12).
*INTRODUCTION*
The family institution is ordained by God to be a citadel of care, comfort, character cultivation, character formation, charity and compassion. However, if any of the family members open the door to Satan, a family setting may turn to a place where bitterness, ungodly rivalry, strives and all forms of evils germinate. The origin of such a problem may be traced to parental laxity, lawlessness, lusts and lack of wisdom. The problem may also be due to some members who decide to align with evil habits and character despite all entreaties. The case of David shows how a good family should not be managed. The rumble in the family was a tragedy that affected every member of the family in a most tragic and regrettable manner. Well, it had irreversibly happened. What is expected of us is to learn from those errors and work definitely to avoid them in order to avoid what Jesus said that *"a man's enemies are they of his own household"*. The text is an example of a royal family filled with conflicts, confusion, selfish ambitions and lawlessness. The root cause is avoidable carnality which if all the parties had subdued would not have resulted into this household wickedness among members.
*1. Time Segment of Man*
a. Man has different inescapable time segments in life. *"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven"* (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Broadly, there is a time of childhood with childish dreams, actions and vanities. There is the pick of human strength and agility which is a time of adulthood and there is the time of old age. It will be a disgrace to still be using a feeding bottle as a youth. *"When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things"* (1 Corinthians 13:11). No matter how educated, endowed and exemplary a man is, he must pass through all those stages if he is privileged to live long. It is on this note that people say, *"opportunity once lost can never be regained"*. Every stage of a man's life should be well utilized because once someone crosses to another stage, he cannot go back to do what he missed at the earlier stage effectively. King David bore witness to this fact.
b. We could see him at the backside of the desert taking care of the sheep of his father and learning how to sing psalms and play instruments. From there we saw him agile and strong while
confronting Goliath. From there he passed through the wilderness of life with many good, bad and the ugly experiences to learn from. He rose to the peak of his popularity, honour and advancement when he became King. The text shows us another David who was now old and physically weak with no ability to fight again. He could not even keep himself warm again. They must now decide for David as to what to do to keep himself warm and who is the best lady to do that. Such is life. This reminds us that every human being has different seasons in life. Strength, influence, wealth and physical ability are not permanent. Make the best use of the moment for what you will not regret of, in the future. The best way to do that is to follow God and His Word closely.
*Question*
Have you learnt to recognize the changing seasons of life and plan to make the best use of the present?
*2. Throne and Source of Madness*
a. Would this family have had this problem and confusion if the throne was not involved? The problem was not really the throne, but the parental negligence, carelessness and carnality of the heart to start with. The wilderness experience of David was allowed to take a toll on him to the point that he did not have time for real character formation and parental trainings of the children. He himself lacked discipline with respect to women that he could not give a good example to the children. Wilderness experience and unexpected challenges of life should not be allowed as an excuse in doing the needful because the resultant effect of neglect would be anguish, afflictions and irreversible regrets.
b. The children too did not have an excuse. They could decide to learn from the mistakes of their father and decide to live a more responsible life. They ended up destroying themselves. Adonijah did not learn from the fact that it was not David that exalted himself to be king and David was not even the firstborn in the family. He decided to ride on the vehicle of being the firstborn alive to exalt himself and force himself to be king. He refused to learn good lessons from David. The Bible is given to us to learn from. Keep glued to it and be teachable. He said, *“I will be king.”* His ambition was not rooted in divine appointment, but in self-exaltation.
Ambition without submission to God can become dangerous madness. Adonijah desired the throne, but ignored the divine purpose concerning Solomon. He gathered people who supported his agenda and resorted to self management. God factor was not in his plan.
Many conflicts in families, churches and organizations arise when individuals seek positions rather than divine purpose. A throne obtained through manipulation cannot bring lasting peace.
*Question*
Is your ambition governed by the will of God or are you pursuing position at all costs?
*3. Truth that Saves from Mischief*
Nathan, the prophet, decided to be a man of the hour though he had the option of folding his arms out of fear of what Adonijah could do to him. He recognized the danger and acted with wisdom. He approached Bathsheba with the truth and gave her a strategy to preserve both her life and the life of Solomon. Truth, when spoken at the right time and in the right manner, can prevent disaster. Nathan did not ignore the conspiracy. Silence in the face of mischief can allow evil to grow. God often uses faithful people who are courageous enough to speak truth and take wise action. Bathsheba was instructed to inform the king about what was happening before Adonijah's plot became irreversible.
In times of confusion, God provides truthful counsel to preserve His purpose. We must, therefore, value godly advisers and be willing to act upon the truth.
*Question*
Are you willing to speak, receive and act upon the truth that can save you from destruction?
*Prayer Points*
1.Lord, help me to understand and prepare wisely for every season of my life .
2.Father, deliver me from selfish ambition and give me a heart that submits completely to Your will .
3.Lord, expose every evil conspiracy and mischief designed against Your purpose for my life and family .
4.Father, raise truthful and godly counsellors around Your children who will help them fulfil Your divine purpose .

```KEY VERSE:``` _*"Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him" (1 KINGS 1:5).*_
*Dwight Lyman Moody, an American evangelist, in one of his sermons, stated, "Satan rules all men that are in his kingdom. Some he rules through lust. Some he rules through covetousness. Some he rules through appetite. Some he rules by their temper, but he rules them. And none will ever seek to be delivered until they get their eyes open and see that they have been taken captive."*
*From our text, Adonijah, the fourth son of David, after Amnon, Chileab and Absalom, was caught in the web of ungodly ambition. Amnon, the first son, who had an unholy affair with his sister, Tamar, had already been killed, while Absalom, the third son, who staged a coup against his father, was also killed.*
*Nothing was known of Chileab, David's second son, born to him by Abigail, widow of Nabal the Carmelite. Adonijah, who wanted to become king instead of Solomon, was the oldest son still alive. Therefore, Adonijah thought he would be the next king, after his father, David, who was very old. He made plans towards achieving his course. He knew his father would soon die, and he got the support of Joab, David's military commander, and Abiathar the priest to make him king. But Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah and David's bodyguards refused to support him. Adonijah still went ahead with his selfish ambition, planning a ceremony where he would declare himself the new king. Nobody can run faster than God. Adonijah's inordinate ambition led to his premature death. Solomon did not even fight for the fulfilment of God's promise that he would succeed his father.*
*Whatever God has ordained for you must come to pass, the machinations of enemies notwithstanding. He knows how to thwart the conspiracy of darkness against your job, business, promotion and family. Pray and trust God. Be it further noted that a child of God must never resort to self-management and carnal display in governing his or her affairs. Once in Christ, we are to trust Him with our entire life span, confident that He who saved us knows what is best for us in time and eternity. Your lot, therefore, is to simply trust Him to the uttermost.*
Mr. Jerry testified during fellowship of how God answered his prayers. He had a great need that made him to seek for help from different places to no avail. One day, he heard the word of God being preached in a church close to his house. The word touched and transformed his life, and gave him confidence to pray and trust God. He then prayed fervently for God's help. Lo and behold the answer came, and he received his miracle.
God loves all His children, and He wants them to pray to Him every day. Knocking on heaven's doors means to pray to God until you receive answers to your prayers. Everybody is allowed to knock on heaven's doors - both young and old. Jesus has promised to answer - He says, *"Ask and you will receive, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you."*
*Have you been knocking on heaven's doors for your needs? Instead of crying, getting worried, acting rebellious to your parents, it is better to take your problems to God in prayer, and He will answer you. What are you waiting for? "Knock, and continue to knock until heaven's door of blessings is opened unto you."*
MD.i. Morning Prayer
A Psalm of David. The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want. ⏤ Psalm 23:1
A life growing in prayer is a life of deepening gratitude. ⏤ Eugene Peterson
O Lord, open our lips, and our mouth shall show forth Your praise. We praise You for all that You are in Yourself—the glory of Your being, the excellency of Your power and goodness, Your faithfulness and loving-kindness. We praise You that all You are and have is ours, that You are our own God, and that we can say, "The Lord is my Shepherd," and "God is our refuge and strength." You have given Yourself to us. You are our Father, and we are Your children. All the blessings of our Father's house are ours.
Graciously pardon all our iniquities, and help us to make sincere confession, assured that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us. Save us, O God, from trying to hide or cover our sins from You, and help us to confess them openly.
Let a blessing rest upon us today in all the affairs of our life. Give us this day our daily bread. We ask not for luxuries, lest we forget our dependence upon You. Preserve us from poverty and want, lest we be tempted to sin. Give us only our daily bread, and grant us contentment with it. Let us not murmur nor complain. Give us trust and peace.
We beseech You to use us in whatever ways we can best serve You. We consecrate our lives to You. Let us not live for ourselves, but may we employ all our talents and possessions so that our lives may be blessings to others.
Deal gently, Lord, with the sick and the dying. Show Your favor to the needy and the outcast. Be the friend of the friendless. Guide the young, and lead all people to trust in You. Cover us now with the shadow of Your wings. We ask in Jesus' precious name. Amen.
*Nothing was known of Chileab, David's second son, born to him by Abigail, widow of Nabal the Carmelite. Adonijah, who wanted to become king instead of Solomon, was the oldest son still alive. Therefore, Adonijah thought he would be the next king, after his father, David, who was very old. He made plans towards achieving his course. He knew his father would soon die, and he got the support of Joab, David's military commander, and Abiathar the priest to make him king. But Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah and David's bodyguards refused to support him. Adonijah still went ahead with his selfish ambition, planning a ceremony where he would declare himself the new king. Nobody can run faster than God. Adonijah's inordinate ambition led to his premature death. Solomon did not even fight for the fulfilment of God's promise that he would succeed his father.*
*Whatever God has ordained for you must come to pass, the machinations of enemies notwithstanding. He knows how to thwart the conspiracy of darkness against your job, business, promotion and family. Pray and trust God. Be it further noted that a child of God must never resort to self-management and carnal display in governing his or her affairs. Once in Christ, we are to trust Him with our entire life span, confident that He who saved us knows what is best for us in time and eternity. Your lot, therefore, is to simply trust Him to the uttermost.*
2. Morning prayer for today.
MD.i. Morning Prayer
A Psalm of David. The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want. ⏤ Psalm 23:1
A life growing in prayer is a life of deepening gratitude. ⏤ Eugene Peterson
O Lord, open our lips, and our mouth shall show forth Your praise. We praise You for all that You are in Yourself—the glory of Your being, the excellency of Your power and goodness, Your faithfulness and loving-kindness. We praise You that all You are and have is ours, that You are our own God, and that we can say, "The Lord is my Shepherd," and "God is our refuge and strength." You have given Yourself to us. You are our Father, and we are Your children. All the blessings of our Father's house are ours.
Graciously pardon all our iniquities, and help us to make sincere confession, assured that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us. Save us, O God, from trying to hide or cover our sins from You, and help us to confess them openly.
Let a blessing rest upon us today in all the affairs of our life. Give us this day our daily bread. We ask not for luxuries, lest we forget our dependence upon You. Preserve us from poverty and want, lest we be tempted to sin. Give us only our daily bread, and grant us contentment with it. Let us not murmur nor complain. Give us trust and peace.
We beseech You to use us in whatever ways we can best serve You. We consecrate our lives to You. Let us not live for ourselves, but may we employ all our talents and possessions so that our lives may be blessings to others.
Deal gently, Lord, with the sick and the dying. Show Your favor to the needy and the outcast. Be the friend of the friendless. Guide the young, and lead all people to trust in You. Cover us now with the shadow of Your wings. We ask in Jesus' precious name. Amen.
Good morning, brethren.
1. Morning devotion for today.
MD.i. 😀🎀💝🎁🌺🌹 MORNING TEA
THE WORD FOR TODAY. TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2O26.
"FOUR KINDS OF GIVERS (4)"
'...Joseph opened the storehouses [barns] and sold grain to the Egyptians...’ Genesis 41:56 NIV
BARN PEOPLE. God used Joseph to feed the nations during a time of worldwide famine. When Pharaoh’s advisers couldn’t interpret his dream, Joseph did. He actually gave Pharaoh a plan that would not only feed Egypt during seven years of famine, but also feed the world and cause Pharaoh to come out of this crisis a richer man. When you serve God, He can give you information about the future. He can give you not only the wisdom to survive, but thrive when you’re in a recession. But you can’t build such a relationship with God overnight! Joseph’s journey to the throne of Egypt led through years of delay, detours and discouragement. He experienced betrayal at the hands of his family, temptation and slander at the hands of his employer’s wife, false imprisonment, years of waiting and wondering when God would fulfil His promise to make him a leader. But he never doubted God. And you must not either! If God can take an ex-con like Joseph and make him the prime minister of Egypt, no obstacle and no enemy can keep Him from fulfilling His promise to you.
So, if you’re a bag person, ‘consider your ways’ and start putting God first in your finances. If you’re a bin person, ‘be not afraid,’ give, and God will give back to you. If you’re a basket person, place what you’ve got into God’s hands and watch Him multiply it. If you’re a barn person with a heart that longs to meet the needs of a hurting world, nothing your enemies do will stop you.
*RUMBLE IN THE ROYAL FAMILY*
*TEXT:* 1KINGS 1:1-13.
Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.
2 Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.
3 So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
4 And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.
5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.
6 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.
7 And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.
8 But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.
9 And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants:
10 But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.
11 Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?
12 Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
13 Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign?
*Timeless Truth:*_"It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness."_ (Proverbs 16:12).
*INTRODUCTION*
The family institution is ordained by God to be a citadel of care, comfort, character cultivation, character formation, charity and compassion. However, if any of the family members open the door to Satan, a family setting may turn to a place where bitterness, ungodly rivalry, strives and all forms of evils germinate. The origin of such a problem may be traced to parental laxity, lawlessness, lusts and lack of wisdom. The problem may also be due to some members who decide to align with evil habits and character despite all entreaties. The case of David shows how a good family should not be managed. The rumble in the family was a tragedy that affected every member of the family in a most tragic and regrettable manner. Well, it had irreversibly happened. What is expected of us is to learn from those errors and work definitely to avoid them in order to avoid what Jesus said that *"a man's enemies are they of his own household"*. The text is an example of a royal family filled with conflicts, confusion, selfish ambitions and lawlessness. The root cause is avoidable carnality which if all the parties had subdued would not have resulted into this household wickedness among members.
*1. Time Segment of Man*
a. Man has different inescapable time segments in life. *"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven"* (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Broadly, there is a time of childhood with childish dreams, actions and vanities. There is the pick of human strength and agility which is a time of adulthood and there is the time of old age. It will be a disgrace to still be using a feeding bottle as a youth. *"When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things"* (1 Corinthians 13:11). No matter how educated, endowed and exemplary a man is, he must pass through all those stages if he is privileged to live long. It is on this note that people say, *"opportunity once lost can never be regained"*. Every stage of a man's life should be well utilized because once someone crosses to another stage, he cannot go back to do what he missed at the earlier stage effectively. King David bore witness to this fact.
b. We could see him at the backside of the desert taking care of the sheep of his father and learning how to sing psalms and play instruments. From there we saw him agile and strong while
confronting Goliath. From there he passed through the wilderness of life with many good, bad and the ugly experiences to learn from. He rose to the peak of his popularity, honour and advancement when he became King. The text shows us another David who was now old and physically weak with no ability to fight again. He could not even keep himself warm again. They must now decide for David as to what to do to keep himself warm and who is the best lady to do that. Such is life. This reminds us that every human being has different seasons in life. Strength, influence, wealth and physical ability are not permanent. Make the best use of the moment for what you will not regret of, in the future. The best way to do that is to follow God and His Word closely.
*Question*
Have you learnt to recognize the changing seasons of life and plan to make the best use of the present?
*2. Throne and Source of Madness*
a. Would this family have had this problem and confusion if the throne was not involved? The problem was not really the throne, but the parental negligence, carelessness and carnality of the heart to start with. The wilderness experience of David was allowed to take a toll on him to the point that he did not have time for real character formation and parental trainings of the children. He himself lacked discipline with respect to women that he could not give a good example to the children. Wilderness experience and unexpected challenges of life should not be allowed as an excuse in doing the needful because the resultant effect of neglect would be anguish, afflictions and irreversible regrets.
b. The children too did not have an excuse. They could decide to learn from the mistakes of their father and decide to live a more responsible life. They ended up destroying themselves. Adonijah did not learn from the fact that it was not David that exalted himself to be king and David was not even the firstborn in the family. He decided to ride on the vehicle of being the firstborn alive to exalt himself and force himself to be king. He refused to learn good lessons from David. The Bible is given to us to learn from. Keep glued to it and be teachable. He said, *“I will be king.”* His ambition was not rooted in divine appointment, but in self-exaltation.
Ambition without submission to God can become dangerous madness. Adonijah desired the throne, but ignored the divine purpose concerning Solomon. He gathered people who supported his agenda and resorted to self management. God factor was not in his plan.
Many conflicts in families, churches and organizations arise when individuals seek positions rather than divine purpose. A throne obtained through manipulation cannot bring lasting peace.
*Question*
Is your ambition governed by the will of God or are you pursuing position at all costs?
*3. Truth that Saves from Mischief*
Nathan, the prophet, decided to be a man of the hour though he had the option of folding his arms out of fear of what Adonijah could do to him. He recognized the danger and acted with wisdom. He approached Bathsheba with the truth and gave her a strategy to preserve both her life and the life of Solomon. Truth, when spoken at the right time and in the right manner, can prevent disaster. Nathan did not ignore the conspiracy. Silence in the face of mischief can allow evil to grow. God often uses faithful people who are courageous enough to speak truth and take wise action. Bathsheba was instructed to inform the king about what was happening before Adonijah's plot became irreversible.
In times of confusion, God provides truthful counsel to preserve His purpose. We must, therefore, value godly advisers and be willing to act upon the truth.
*Question*
Are you willing to speak, receive and act upon the truth that can save you from destruction?
*Prayer Points*
1.Lord, help me to understand and prepare wisely for every season of my life 🙏.
2.Father, deliver me from selfish ambition and give me a heart that submits completely to Your will 🙏.
3.Lord, expose every evil conspiracy and mischief designed against Your purpose for my life and family 🙏.
4.Father, raise truthful and godly counsellors around Your children who will help them fulfil Your divine purpose 🙏.
