THE WORD FOR TODAY. THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 10, 2O26.
"AVOID TRIANGLES"
'...Mind your own business; do your own job...’ 1 Thessalonians 4:11 TM
WE’RE NOT very good at knowing the difference between helpfulness and interference! Suppose two people we care about are in conflict. We think we can be the Red Cross, and salvage things. Ultimately, with our good intentions in ruins, we’re in over our heads. Looking back, we say, ‘I’ll never do that again’—until the next time! Here are some healthy relationship boundaries. Sometimes when two people are at odds with each other they ‘triangle in’ a third person to focus on, attempting to lower their stress. Whoever they triangle in gets caught in the middle, becomes entangled in their unresolved issue, and ultimately becomes their shock absorber. Unfortunately, when that person’s rescue attempt backfires they become part of the problem, keeping the issues and themselves stuck. So what should you do? 1) Unless God puts you in the middle, stay out! The Bible says, ‘…Mind your own business; do your own job...’(1 Thessalonians 4:11 TM) If your name’s not on it, don’t pick it up! Try saying, ‘I care about you both too much to complicate things with unqualified advice. I’ll pray that God gives you the wisdom to do what’s right for each other.’ 2) Maintain a caring relationship with both people. Relationship specialist, Edwin Friedman, says, ‘The way to bring change to the relationship of two others is to maintain a well-defined relationship with each, and avoid taking responsibility for their relationship.’ Don’t take sides. Don’t let them pull you in. If they try, remind them that you’re praying and trusting God to help them resolve the problem, and that you’re confident He will do it.

*FROM STUBBORNESS TO PERPETUAL BACKSLIDDING*
*TEXT:* 2 KINGS 24:17-20.
17 And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah his father's brother king in his stead, and changed his name to Zedekiah.
18 Zedekiah was twenty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
19 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.
20 For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
*Timeless Truth:*_"Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return"_ (Jeremiah 8:5).
*INTRODUCTION*
Rebellion against a particular instruction from God opens the door of exit for a particular measure of the glory of God from the Rebellious person, family, community or nation. Without heart felt repentance, this will continually, lead to further rebellion in some other aspect of the Word of God and the end result will be perpetual backsliding which will be almost impossible to reverse. After about 135 years of the captivity of Northern Israel by Assyria, Judah also was taken into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar because they followed the exact evils that destroyed the Northern Kingdom. They continually, despised and took the Word of God from God's prophets for granted until God could no longer forgive them. Anybody that takes any part of the Word of God for granted will do well by taking a total reverse gear or U-turn before hardness of heart sets in and it becomes perpetual backsliding which will lead to eternal damnation.
*1. The Roll Call of Kings*
Judah was blessed with good kings. Josiah was the last good king of Judah. He reigned for 31 years and died at 39 (2 Kings 22:1). He was a revivalist who enforced righteousness in his days. Josiah died prematurely as a result of meddling in what did not concern him after repeated warning (2 Chronicles 35:20-25). Obviously, his untimely and avoidable death denied all his four children who reigned after him enduring parental and godly training. None of them had the fear of God and was able to follow his godly steps. If he had lived longer, his sons might have not have suffered the moral failures that followed. Orphans of godly parents need special attention so that they can continue in their godly ways.
b. The final four monarchs who ruled the Kingdom of Judah from the death of King Josiah until the Babylonian captivity consisted of Josiah's sons and grandson are:
I. King Josiah (640–609 BCE): The righteous reformer king who died in battle against Pharaoh Neco at Megiddo.
II. King Jehoahaz (609 BCE): Also called Shallum, Josiah's fourth son who reigned for just three months before being deposed and taken to Egypt, where he died.
III. King Jehoiakim (609–598 BCE): Originally named Eliakim, another son of Josiah placed on the throne by Pharaoh Neco; he later became a vassal to Babylon before dying during a revolt.
IV. King Jehoiachin (598–597 BCE): Also called Jeconiah or Coniah, the son of Jehoiakim and grandson of Josiah who ruled for three months before being exiled to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar. He was also cursed by God for his evils, Jeremiah 22: 28-30.
IV. King Zedekiah (597–586 BCE): Named Mattaniah at birth, Josiah's third son and Jehoiachin's uncle whom Nebuchadnezzar made king; he rebelled against Babylon, leading to the final siege, the destruction of Jerusalem, and the ultimate captivity. The Babylonians slew all his sons in his presence and immediate remove his eyes. He was bound with fetters of brass like an animal and taken to Babylon (2 Kings 25:7).
*Question*
Read 2 Kings 23:31-24:20 and observe how all of them did that which was evil in the sight of God.
*2. The Rebellious and the Condemned Kings*
a. The fall of Jerusalem did not happen overnight. There were abundant opportunities for those kings to reflect, repent, return and seek for revival like it happened during the reign of their father, Josiah. They all refused and rejected the opportunity. It occurred in stages.
· Nebuchadnezzar initially subjugated the city about 605 BC.
· Destruction from Nebuchadnezzar’s marauding bands followed from 601 to 598 BC.
· The siege and fall of Jerusalem occurred under Nebuchadnezzar’s main army on 16 March, 597 BC.
· Nebuchadnezzar returned to completely destroy and depopulate Jerusalem in the summer of 586 BC.
Throughout that period, Jeremiah, the "weeping prophet", kept on warning and prophesying to them and all those warning went into their deaf ears. It was as if the judgment would never happen, at least at their own time. The last four kings had the same records of rebellion.
*"And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done"*.
b. *"And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD"*. Despising the God-sent is despising the God who sent them. The attitude of one of those four Kings, Zedekiah in particular, was the representative of all the other Kings, *"he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto the LORD God of Israel"* (2 Chronicles 36:12,13).

Do you tremble at the Word of God or you just spurn His Word and select which one you will do?
*3. The Righteous Condemnation by the King of kings*
Zedekiah, like all other Rebellious kings in Judah and outside was judged and condemned. Think of Pharaoh. Think of Herod. Think of Belshazzer (Daniel 5). There is no partiality with God.
*"For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah... that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon"*. The repercussion was that God *"cast them out from his presence"*. Preachers and saints can also manifest this trait by restricting themselves to preaching or obeying some parts or doctrine of the Word while the others are being neglected. Selective obedience to some doctrines will produce selective rebellion against some doctrines.
The righteous condemnation of the King of kings came upon Judah because of persistent rebellion and disobedience against God, despite His repeated warnings. Zedekiah and the people experienced the consequences of turning away from the Lord, showing that divine patience does not cancel divine judgment.
God remains righteous in His judgments and no king, nation or individual can escape the consequences of deliberate rejection of His Word.

Are you humbly obeying the King of kings today or are your actions leading you toward His righteous judgment?
*Prayer Points*
1.Give praises to God because of His righteous judgments .
2.Ask God to scan through your heart through His Word and by the Holy Spirit and expose any seed of rebellion in your heart .
3.Ask the Lord to search your inner being and purge you of all traces of rebellion .
4.Pray that none of us will be selective in obedience, but our obedience will be total .

*Jeffrey D. King, a Christian architect and woodworker, shared an enthralling story: In 1982, _ABC Evening News_ reported on an unusual work of modern art - a chair affixed to a shotgun. It was to be viewed by sitting in the chair and looking directly into the gun barrel. The gun was loaded and set on a timer to fire at an undetermined moment within the next hundred years. The amazing thing was that people waited in lines to sit and stare into the shell's path! They all knew the gun could go off at point-blank range at any moment, but they were gambling that the fatal blast would not happen during their minute in the chair.*
*In our text are the kings of Judah, who also gambled with the destiny of their nation with the confidence that they could get away with sin despite the unmistakable and endless warnings from God through His prophets over the centuries. Moses in the Pentateuch was not frugal with his warnings against backsliding and the consequences in the event of rebellion, idolatry or apostasy. Also, the pre-exilic prophets, especially Jeremiah, did not fail to warn, but neither Manasseh nor Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, nor Zedekiah would budge. The end was disastrous! Jerusalem became a vassal of Babylon. The potentates, princes, people and paupers of Judah were moved out, and the population became stateless. What a woeful price to pay for rebellion and sin!*
*Interestingly, despite Judah's recalcitrance, judgement was never God's goal. It is almost always the means to an end. The end is to bring sinners and backsliders to understand the errors of their ways, humble them and make them return to the path of life and righteousness.*
*Even today, God longs for the repentance of sinners and backsliders. Tarrying could be fatal. Christ affirmed in His call to the lost: "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20).*

*Life is full of challenges and unpleasant experiences which tend to negatively influence our feelings towards God. In times of extreme hardship, we feel that God is estranged from us. The experience of disappointments, financial difficulties, failures and set-backs is common to everyone, including youths.*
*When youths navigate through such experiences, they feel that no one cares and that God has forgotten them. In our text, Israel claimed that God had forsaken and forgotten them. Is this your experience? There is hope for you in God.*
*Replying Israel's claim, God stressed that a woman may forget her suckling child, but He will not forget them, having graven them in the palms of His hands. What an assurance from God to Christian youths! Beloved, when it seems you are forgotten or when answers to prayers seem delayed, cry out to God.*
*Don't despair. Don't doubt God's promised presence. He will neither forget nor forsake you. He did not forget Joseph in Egypt, or Jeremiah in the dungeon of Malchiah in the court of the prison (Jeremiah 38:4-13). Wait for Him and remain steadfast in faith.*

Tony was truly born again, and in obedience to the command of the Lord Jesus Christ in Mark 16:15, he was always preaching the gospel.
One day, Tony gave Hamed, his classmate, a Christian magazine. Hamed collected it and tore the magazine into shreds and threw its shredded pieces at Tony, warning him never to preach to him or give him anything about Jesus anymore!
Some days later, during the lunch break period, Tony observed that Hamed remained unusually quiet as he sat at his desk, looking frail and hungry. Having asked him, Tony discovered that Hamed was indeed very hungry and weak because he and his family were going through some hardship.
Tony comforted him, shared his lunch with him, and further promised to always share his lunch with him anytime he did not come to school with food. Hamed wondered why Tony was so kind to him despite his bad attitude to Tony.
Then Tony used the opportunity to preach about Jesus to him and led him to Jesus through prayer and repentance. Hamed became a true friend of Jesus from that day.

Our Father in Heaven, we, Your earthly children, worship You. We thank You for Your word, which we can read at the opening of the day, taking it as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. May it be to us indeed a light this day, shining for us and showing us the way of holiness. We always need a divine lamp, for the earth is dark. Sin has made it perilous to travel on these treacherous ways without a lamp. No human friend can guide us infallibly. We cannot guide ourselves. We would never find the way home were it not for the light of truth which You have given, which makes every smallest part of the path through this world clear and plain if we will walk in the light.
Let us not try to walk in the light of our own understanding, stumbling and falling. We put our hands in Yours this morning, and we would be led by You all day. We do not know where our paths will take us. It may be that darkness lies before us, or hard and rough ways, or that we must enter some Gethsemane. Lead us, O Jesus, where You will, and give us grace to follow submissively.
We seek Your blessing upon all the work of this day. Show us what You would have us do. May we find the tasks You have in Your plan and purpose for us, and then do them faithfully. Let us never resist Your gracious leading. Enable us always to do Your will, as it is done in Heaven. Bless us . . .

Zedekiah, like all other Rebellious kings in Judah and outside was judged and condemned. Think of Pharaoh. Think of Herod. Think of Belshazzer (Daniel 5). There is no partiality with God.
*"For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah... that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon"*. The repercussion was that God *"cast them out from his presence"*. Preachers and saints can also manifest this trait by restricting themselves to preaching or obeying some parts or doctrine of the Word while the others are being neglected. Selective obedience to some doctrines will produce selective rebellion against some doctrines.
The righteous condemnation of the King of kings came upon Judah because of persistent rebellion and disobedience against God, despite His repeated warnings. Zedekiah and the people experienced the consequences of turning away from the Lord, showing that divine patience does not cancel divine judgment.
God remains righteous in His judgments and no king, nation or individual can escape the consequences of deliberate rejection of His Word.

Also, the pre-exilic prophets, especially Jeremiah, did not fail to warn, but neither Manasseh nor Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, nor Zedekiah would budge. The end was disastrous! Jerusalem became a vassal of Babylon. The potentates, princes, people and paupers of Judah were moved out, and the population became stateless. What a woeful price to pay for rebellion and sin!*
*Interestingly, despite Judah's recalcitrance, judgement was never God's goal. It is almost always the means to an end. The end is to bring sinners and backsliders to understand the errors of their ways, humble them and make them return to the path of life and righteousness.*

*Life is full of challenges and unpleasant experiences which tend to negatively influence our feelings towards God. In times of extreme hardship, we feel that God is estranged from us. The experience of disappointments, financial difficulties, failures and set-backs is common to everyone, including youths.*
*When youths navigate through such experiences, they feel that no one cares and that God has forgotten them. In our text, Israel claimed that God had forsaken and forgotten them. Is this your experience? There is hope for you in God.*

Tony was truly born again, and in obedience to the command of the Lord Jesus Christ in Mark 16:15, he was always preaching the gospel.
One day, Tony gave Hamed, his classmate, a Christian magazine. Hamed collected it and tore the magazine into shreds and threw its shredded pieces at Tony, warning him never to preach to him or give him anything about Jesus anymore!
Some days later, during the lunch break period, Tony observed that Hamed remained unusually quiet as he sat at his desk, looking frail and hungry. Having asked him, Tony discovered that Hamed was indeed very hungry and weak because he and his family were going through some hardship.
Tony comforted him, shared his lunch with him, and further promised to always share his lunch with him anytime he did not come to school with food. Hamed wondered why Tony was so kind to him despite his bad attitude to Tony.
Then Tony used the opportunity to preach about Jesus to him and led him to Jesus through prayer and repentance. Hamed became a true friend of Jesus from that day.

Our Father in Heaven, we, Your earthly children, worship You. We thank You for Your word, which we can read at the opening of the day, taking it as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. May it be to us indeed a light this day, shining for us and showing us the way of holiness. We always need a divine lamp, for the earth is dark. Sin has made it perilous to travel on these treacherous ways without a lamp. No human friend can guide us infallibly. We cannot guide ourselves. We would never find the way home were it not for the light of truth which You have given, which makes every smallest part of the path through this world clear and plain if we will walk in the light.
Let us not try to walk in the light of our own understanding, stumbling and falling. We put our hands in Yours this morning, and we would be led by You all day. We do not know where our paths will take us. It may be that darkness lies before us, or hard and rough ways, or that we must enter some Gethsemane. Lead us, O Jesus, where You will, and give us grace to follow submissively.
We seek Your blessing upon all the work of this day. Show us what You would have us do. May we find the tasks You have in Your plan and purpose for us, and then do them faithfully. Let us never resist Your gracious leading. Enable us always to do Your will, as it is done in Heaven. Bless us . . .

WE’RE NOT very good at knowing the difference between helpfulness and interference! Suppose two people we care about are in conflict. We think we can be the Red Cross, and salvage things. Ultimately, with our good intentions in ruins, we’re in over our heads. Looking back, we say, ‘I’ll never do that again’—until the next time! Here are some healthy relationship boundaries. Sometimes when two people are at odds with each other they ‘triangle in’ a third person to focus on, attempting to lower their stress. Whoever they triangle in gets caught in the middle, becomes entangled in their unresolved issue, and ultimately becomes their shock absorber. Unfortunately, when that person’s rescue attempt backfires they become part of the problem, keeping the issues and themselves stuck. So what should you do? 1) Unless God puts you in the middle, stay out! The Bible says, ‘…Mind your own business; do your own job...’(1 Thessalonians 4:11 TM) If your name’s not on it, don’t pick it up! Try saying, ‘I care about you both too much to complicate things with unqualified advice. I’ll pray that God gives you the wisdom to do what’s right for each other.’ 2) Maintain a caring relationship with both people. Relationship specialist, Edwin Friedman, says, ‘The way to bring change to the relationship of two others is to maintain a well-defined relationship with each, and avoid taking responsibility for their relationship.’ Don’t take sides. Don’t let them pull you in. If they try, remind them that you’re praying and trusting God to help them resolve the problem, and that you’re confident He will do it.

*FROM STUBBORNESS TO PERPETUAL BACKSLIDDING*
*TEXT:* 2 KINGS 24:17-20.
17 And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah his father's brother king in his stead, and changed his name to Zedekiah.
18 Zedekiah was twenty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
19 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.
20 For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
*Timeless Truth:*_"Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return"_ (Jeremiah 8:5).
*INTRODUCTION*
Rebellion against a particular instruction from God opens the door of exit for a particular measure of the glory of God from the Rebellious person, family, community or nation. Without heart felt repentance, this will continually, lead to further rebellion in some other aspect of the Word of God and the end result will be perpetual backsliding which will be almost impossible to reverse. After about 135 years of the captivity of Northern Israel by Assyria, Judah also was taken into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar because they followed the exact evils that destroyed the Northern Kingdom. They continually, despised and took the Word of God from God's prophets for granted until God could no longer forgive them. Anybody that takes any part of the Word of God for granted will do well by taking a total reverse gear or U-turn before hardness of heart sets in and it becomes perpetual backsliding which will lead to eternal damnation.
*1. The Roll Call of Kings*
Judah was blessed with good kings. Josiah was the last good king of Judah. He reigned for 31 years and died at 39 (2 Kings 22:1). He was a revivalist who enforced righteousness in his days. Josiah died prematurely as a result of meddling in what did not concern him after repeated warning (2 Chronicles 35:20-25). Obviously, his untimely and avoidable death denied all his four children who reigned after him enduring parental and godly training. None of them had the fear of God and was able to follow his godly steps. If he had lived longer, his sons might have not have suffered the moral failures that followed. Orphans of godly parents need special attention so that they can continue in their godly ways.
b. The final four monarchs who ruled the Kingdom of Judah from the death of King Josiah until the Babylonian captivity consisted of Josiah's sons and grandson are:
I. King Josiah (640–609 BCE): The righteous reformer king who died in battle against Pharaoh Neco at Megiddo.
II. King Jehoahaz (609 BCE): Also called Shallum, Josiah's fourth son who reigned for just three months before being deposed and taken to Egypt, where he died.
III. King Jehoiakim (609–598 BCE): Originally named Eliakim, another son of Josiah placed on the throne by Pharaoh Neco; he later became a vassal to Babylon before dying during a revolt.
IV. King Jehoiachin (598–597 BCE): Also called Jeconiah or Coniah, the son of Jehoiakim and grandson of Josiah who ruled for three months before being exiled to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar. He was also cursed by God for his evils, Jeremiah 22: 28-30.
IV. King Zedekiah (597–586 BCE): Named Mattaniah at birth, Josiah's third son and Jehoiachin's uncle whom Nebuchadnezzar made king; he rebelled against Babylon, leading to the final siege, the destruction of Jerusalem, and the ultimate captivity. The Babylonians slew all his sons in his presence and immediate remove his eyes. He was bound with fetters of brass like an animal and taken to Babylon (2 Kings 25:7).

Read 2 Kings 23:31-24:20 and observe how all of them did that which was evil in the sight of God.
*2. The Rebellious and the Condemned Kings*
a. The fall of Jerusalem did not happen overnight. There were abundant opportunities for those kings to reflect, repent, return and seek for revival like it happened during the reign of their father, Josiah. They all refused and rejected the opportunity. It occurred in stages.
· Nebuchadnezzar initially subjugated the city about 605 BC.
· Destruction from Nebuchadnezzar’s marauding bands followed from 601 to 598 BC.
· The siege and fall of Jerusalem occurred under Nebuchadnezzar’s main army on 16 March, 597 BC.
· Nebuchadnezzar returned to completely destroy and depopulate Jerusalem in the summer of 586 BC.
Throughout that period, Jeremiah, the "weeping prophet", kept on warning and prophesying to them and all those warning went into their deaf ears. It was as if the judgment would never happen, at least at their own time. The last four kings had the same records of rebellion.
*"And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done"*.
b. *"And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD"*. Despising the God-sent is despising the God who sent them. The attitude of one of those four Kings, Zedekiah in particular, was the representative of all the other Kings, *"he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto the LORD God of Israel"* (2 Chronicles 36:12,13).

Tony was truly born again, and in obedience to the command of the Lord Jesus Christ in Mark 16:15, he was always preaching the gospel.
One day, Tony gave Hamed, his classmate, a Christian magazine. Hamed collected it and tore the magazine into shreds and threw its shredded pieces at Tony, warning him never to preach to him or give him anything about Jesus anymore!
Some days later, during the lunch break period, Tony observed that Hamed remained unusually quiet as he sat at his desk, looking frail and hungry. Having asked him, Tony discovered that Hamed was indeed very hungry and weak because he and his family were going through some hardship.
Tony comforted him, shared his lunch with him, and further promised to always share his lunch with him anytime he did not come to school with food. Hamed wondered why Tony was so kind to him despite his bad attitude to Tony.
Then Tony used the opportunity to preach about Jesus to him and led him to Jesus through prayer and repentance. Hamed became a true friend of Jesus from that day.
*Soul-winning is the primary assignment of all friends of Jesus. Follow the example of Philip the evangelist and preach the love of Jesus to your classmates, friends, playmates, neighbours and everyone that comes your way. God will reward you greatly.*

MP.i. Morning Prayer
Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. ⏤ Psalm 119:105
The greatest thing anyone can do for God and man is to pray. ⏤ S.D. Gordon
Our Father in Heaven, we, Your earthly children, worship You. We thank You for Your word, which we can read at the opening of the day, taking it as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. May it be to us indeed a light this day, shining for us and showing us the way of holiness. We always need a divine lamp, for the earth is dark. Sin has made it perilous to travel on these treacherous ways without a lamp. No human friend can guide us infallibly. We cannot guide ourselves. We would never find the way home were it not for the light of truth which You have given, which makes every smallest part of the path through this world clear and plain if we will walk in the light.
Let us not try to walk in the light of our own understanding, stumbling and falling. We put our hands in Yours this morning, and we would be led by You all day. We do not know where our paths will take us. It may be that darkness lies before us, or hard and rough ways, or that we must enter some Gethsemane. Lead us, O Jesus, where You will, and give us grace to follow submissively.
We seek Your blessing upon all the work of this day. Show us what You would have us do. May we find the tasks You have in Your plan and purpose for us, and then do them faithfully. Let us never resist Your gracious leading. Enable us always to do Your will, as it is done in Heaven. Bless us . . .
In our home life,
In our friendships,
In our social life,
In our play and work,
In our praying and serving,
In our toil and struggle,
In our joy and sorrow.
We ask all in the name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.
